Manjarowolf
This thing has been driving me mad since day one with its' issues left and right, and honestly, I'm about to break my 8 lb. laptop over the head of a infant(I have a really average patience threshold...).If anyone -and I mean ANYONE- knows how to work new voices in for custom made followers or just getting new voice files to work in general for this frustrating software built by dark wizards from the 9th-dimension, I would thoroughly appreciate the help and support. I've been working on my custom followers mod for months, and everything wantsto work but creating sound and adding it to the follower.

Manjarowolf
If you haven't already done so, give this a read. I have actually. I've been using every guide out there possible. Some even tell me that the creation kit is a picky 4 year-old.Even to the point where people have said "I don't know what your creation kit looks like so I don't know",which I have to say is sad.Software that works like the lottery is just crazy. we all downloaded the same program how does that even make sense. *sigh*but before I digress back into the dark, yeah I've been on the official creation kit site and the Bethesda site, and a few others. Everythingworks but when it comes down to actually putting the voice files in the game and getting the person to say them, it turns into rocket science.I can't even preview some of the files i record! (i've tried .wav, .xma, .fuz, etc.) I'm on m last limb here. heck, i'm just hoping someone can just do that part for me and save me the frustration if it were that simple... AnkhAscendant
Everything works just fine except that it doesn't show up in the game, or are there problems outside of the game too? And, assuming it's just in the game (I'm sorry if this is useless) you've done the [load your mod->save-reload that save] workaround to get past the 1.6 dialogue bug? And, assuming it's just in the game (I'm sorry if this is useless) you've done the [load your mod->save-reload that save] workaround to get past the 1.6 dialogue bug? No it's alright. any feedback helps in some way. When I record and replace the blank Temp.wav with the .wav dialogue i record, it won't preview in the CK. Other guides have told me to convert to .xma and some say to merge the .xma and the .lip file to create a .fuz file. I have all three format of the sound file. I've tried each separately and -at one point- all of them in the folder together. Ironically, with all three files in the mod's voice folder, it previews in the CK(even though most existing sounds in the CK only have the .wav and .lip). but even still when I test it out in game, the follower says nothing. the .wav files are mono as suggested by the guides, and other things but it just doesn't want to work. the custom voice making process is the only part in the CK that gives me any trouble. If you or anyone has any expert experience or have at least found a fool-proof way to make the voice making process smoother, I would appreciate it greatly. I just want to make my mod. Another month burning my eyes to the words "Unable to open Audio file" or a mute Khajiit is something I don't need. Could it be that I have Dawnguard included as one of the required .esm? If it'll help i'll give you the full specs of the npc...
David Brasher
The preview function in the CK is unreliable and usually does not work. So don't even try. Preview your sound files in an outside editor or player program. It is a pain and slows you down, but it is faster than a preview that does not work at all. In my experience, it is best to package the custom voice files as .fuz files when you are getting close to uploading. They are somewhat more reliable than .wav files when people try to play them on computers other than the one they were created on. But alas, Skyrim is so unreliable that even though .fuz files work better than .wav files, there will still be some computers they will not work on, and I do not know how to predict which computers those will be. That's what i'm saying. I've tried .wav because most guides say to do so. heck even the actual vanilla sound file are nothing but .wav and .lip files. doesn't work for me. Another guide say to convert the .wav to a .xma and merge it with the .lip file to create a .fuz file. It'll preview on the CK then, but it still doesn't work in game. the NPC is mute. I've tried the reloading method. no results. I can't seem to get anything out of this thing. The entire CK doesn't give me trouble at all really. It's the voice/sound making process that burns a hole in my skull. Again i ask: Could it be that I use Dawnguard as a prereq for this Follower mod?(When it first came out, I heard people wouldn't touch it because it was buggy.)It''s also a Khajiit, so is there a problem for the CK there? chaospearl
I don't know much about voice files, but if I were you, I'd try process of elimination. If you're worried it might be a Dawnguard issue, remove Dawnguard as a master and see if it works then. Try it with a non-Khajiit. When I run into issues where something is just not working and every indication says it should be, I typically start with a vanilla thing that works, and then just go through and change every single property one at a time until I find the one that changing it makes it not work. At least then I know which battle to fight. Start with a vanilla NPC. Swap out one of its .wav voice files with one of yours. Still work? Change the NPC's race. Still work? Create a duplicate of the NPC and try with that. Add in a new line of dialogue. Change the filename. Use a different file format. Keep changing one thing at a time until it stops working, then you know what the problem is. Solving the problem is another matter, but it helps if you're at least beating your head against the correct brick wall.
