Vladearg
New to the modding world, first thing I discover pretty quickly is that there are two different tools for managing you mods.DAModder (http://dragonage.nexusmods.com/mods/286)DAO-Modmanager (http://dragonage.nexusmods.com/mods/277) I first installed DAOMM and tried to use it to install "more hairstyles". I hit a roadblock at every turn, I couldnt click and drag, I couldnt browse for it.... im not sure exactly what steps I took, it was late at night. But I found it not so user friendly right out of the box. I found some reference saying I needed to do something with the DA_ini_config.xml Creator and I have no idea what the hell a config.xml is let alone what I am supposed to do with it, and I wasnt able to easily find out, so I gave up. I then moved on to DAMI clicked on the "more hairstyles" zip dragged it to the interface, and boom. all done for me. Easy peasy. It was also uploaded more recently, also has a configuration option, and a (seemingly) easy to use backup utility, However, you cant just uncheck the mods to temporarily uninstall them. Also, there is no compatibility check. And with the amount of mods taht caught my interest, this is pretty essential. So... im unsure how to proceed DAOMM looks like it would be a better choice if I knew what the hell I was doing. I downloaded "DAO-Modmanager Manual" but without commentary, all those pics were more confusing then they were helpful. What modder do you guys prefer and why? Anyone else had trouble with DAOMM when first starting out? might DAM be updated soon? I wish DAOMM was more user friendly out of the box, but barring that, does anyone have any easy step by step instructions they could throw my way? Thandal
DAMM all the way! I find it a breeze to use, and it is the only way to employ .override mods such as NV4. The only thing that DAM does that DAMM doesn't is automatically handle .dazip that are packaged as .zip files (renaming them to ".dazip" for you.) I don't find this enough of an advantage to warrant switching.
Vladearg
What is MV4?Do any mods just not work with the DAMM interface? Why was I not able to get "more hairstyles to work? Is there anything I specifically have to do to get DAMM set up properly?
Thandal
Slow down and learn the way things work in Dragon Age.If you're used to TES (BethSoft games), this is very different. See here: Using Dragon Age Mods for Dummies.
Vladearg
Ok... That explained some things. But how are the Override Creator and DA_Ini_config.xml tabs in DAMM used? Are they only for mod developers, or do I have some customization to do? Also, I take it there is no way to get the "more hairstyles" mod in the DAMM interface because DAMM only handles .DAzip and .override files? It sounds like I should use DAMM for .DAzip and .override files, and DAM for "everything else" that I would have otherwise copied directly to the override folder. (it seems what you copy to the override folder manually, and .override extensions seem to be completely different animals. This made it confusing.) Also, what is MV4? Thandal
DAM can't handle mods like "More Hairstyles" either. Mods that just get dropped into the "\override" folder... just get dropped into the "\override" folder. No "manager" needed or wanted. Appearance mods that take effect inside the Character Creator ("CC") require the use of the chargenmorpgcfg.xml file. Most authors supply the appropriate entiries along with their mod. But if you're using more than one, then you (the player) have to consolidate ALL of them into a single .xml, since that's all the game can understand. That's why people use Terra_Ex's "CharGenMorph Compiler"! (And why it's linked in the tutorial article.)
Vladearg
From http://dragonage.nexusmods.com/mods/392"INSTALLATION============1. Drag in DAModder and let it install" Ive found at least two others not .dazip or .override which have a .zip that work automatically with DAM. And ya Terra_Ex's "CharGenMorph Compiler" is awesome. I want to give the author a hug. but endorsements are good too. Also, what is MV4?
