Ashaira
I know many people have had problems but mine is a bit strange. The game crashes as soon as i click the exe. This applies to the normal exe and the skse loader. i checked to make sure it wasn't a mod as i tried to both disable all mods and uninstall them. This is wierd as even after a clean skyrim installation this still happens. last week i had skyrim up and running with like 30-40 mods. then one morning without changing absolutely nothing with the game or the computer i had this crash again. back then i managed to fix it with a clean install but this time it hasn't worked even after i installed the game 5 times (both with and without mods and restarting the computer). Nothing like the sound fix or anything like that helped. Running with the last dawnguard patch ( no heartfire ) on win7 64bit. Does anyone know what might be causing this? blitzen
Well, if you have taken steps to eliminate Skyrim itself as the cause (with the multiple installs), then start looking outside Skyrim. Were any video or audio drivers updated, either manually or automatically? Were there updates to antivirus software? You may want to try GameBooster to shutdown unnecessary background processes. It's possible one was updated and is now causing problems. Unlikely, but possible. Instant crashes are normally caused by missing masters, but if you tried it without mods, then that should not be an issue. I do think you should check the plugins.txt and loadorder.txt files to make sure they are ok. On Windows 7, these will be under the user account folder, then ../AppData/Local/Skyrim. Some people have had problems where Skyrim.esm or Update.esm are missing or are listed twice. I haven't seen this myself, but at least check the files to make sure they are correct. Mine start off like this: loadorder.txt Skyrim.esmUpdate.esmSkyMoMod.esmVigilant of Stendarr Quests Master.esm plugins.txt Update.esmSkyMoMod.esmVigilant of Stendarr Quests Master.esmAOM.esm Note that plugins.txt does not list Skyrim.esm. I just looked. nothing was missing and nothing was duplicated or anything. and no drivers or any such things were updated between when it worked and after. Anyone else have any ideas? blitzen
Are you sure that Steam didn't download some update? Do you run with Steam online? I keep mine offline, so I don't know if there was any recent update. You also might want to try validating your local cache, even though you did a clean re-install. Just in case. Do you happen to have an older copy of the exe file? I keep several around in case I need to rollback to an earlier version, such as 1.6.

Used the razor crack that came with the dawnguard update. i did think the crack might have f***ed up something but after re-downloading the game it didn't find anything missing. i usually stop the updates after the instalation and use the cracked update for dawnguard so i dont have to mess with heartfire as i have a few friends who have had random crashes after the heartfire update. also let the "you scumbag you pirated the game didn't you?" comments flood the world No need.
