mod for adding guns

Hey, I was just wondering if there will be any possibility of importing skins used in counter strike (and the modded skins which can be found online) into Fallout 3. I think it might be able to be done...but probably only to replace a current model in fallout 3, as I see no way of adding new weapons yet...the main problem I see is with weapon animations (reloading, etc.) and how those would be imported.

i dont know much about this, so its more of a suggestion really...something to check out if possible!

No, it would be copyright infringement unless the artist agreed to it, or agreed to it prior by type of copyright (or lack of).

As a modeler who enjoys his work being used, I would have no problem with people using my various work (however crappy it is) in other mods.

As a modeler who enjoys his work being used, I would have problems if the mod using my work made it seem like he made it.

I don't care for getting credit, but I don't like thief.

im not really saying i want to replace all the guns in the game or anything...dunno where you haters are really coming from. just thought it could open a new window as far as modding the game. besides, it might convince more people to mod for fallout 3 who might have done custom things for css. just saying. I'm sure those people can make more than just "turbosmoothed" models...seriously is hating all you can do?

If you really wanted to convince CSS modders to come over to Fallout 3, you'd be on a different forum.

This topic is going nowhere fast.

If you really want shiny guns in your game, then do it yourself. Nobody here seems to share your enthusiasm for CSS.

1. Well, actually there are ways to add new weapons, but I'm not sure how good NIFscope is yet at editing or importing 3D meshes. So worst case scenario, you might have to settle for just a retexture. Second worst, it may be necessary to start with an existing model and pull the vertexes around, since I have no idea how the rest of the binary stuff in the STAT record works.

2. Well, I don't read it necessarily as wanting to steal somebody's work. The weapons in CounterStrike are really just models of RL weapons. There's nothing to stop one from modelling, say, a H&K MP5 from scratch.

If there's anyone who has a copyright (and trademark!) claim for, say, the H&K MP5, that's H&K. I don't know how they'd react.

The thing is, to take a similar example, the car manufacturers do take their trademarks seriously, and you can't put a Porsche Carrera 911 in a game without negotiating a license from Porsche. I'd assume that a gun manufacturer _could_ do the same, and stop you from using their trademark in a game. I don't know if they actually bother for a mod, and they certainly didn't seem to mind CounterStrike. But at least theoretically they _could_ tell you to stop using their trademark.

On the other hand, even they can't seem stop you from using the LOOKS of a car in a game. If it looks like a Carrera 911 and drives like a Carrera 911, but you don't actually call it a Carrera 911, they probably can't do much about it. And IIRC Toyota lost a lawsuit where they tried to stop someone from using a 3D model of their car. So again, I'd assume that the same should apply to guns: if you just call it something like "German 9mm SMG", H&K probably can't do much about it.

ive been making models to be used in CS for ages. i know a few of the big names out there. i can say that most these guys really dont care as long as you get permission first and give full credits for the work.

however they do have a tendency to get livid if they are not asked and not credited for their work. this actually happens quite a bit and sometimes they become quick to judge (harry -_-)

so i am asking you as a content artist to remember both those facts, and dont just go grabbing stuff off of FPSB willy nilly and throwing it into Fo3.

and on a related note. any default from counterstrike may not be used under any circumstance, but thats valves decision

CS modding has been going on for years and i have not once heard of a firearms manufacture suing someone for modding a likeness of their weapon into a game.

Not really related to Counterstrike (I don't even play it!), but to user-made gun models for other games... something I take comfort in is that IMO, the two biggest omissions in terms of Fallout guns in F3 is the Desert Eagle and the .223 Pistol. Sure some of the other guns don't quite match the 'real' Fallout guns - eg the AK-112 equivalent Chinese Assault Rifle - but at least they're there. Why I mention this is that I can only imagine how many Desert Eagle FPS models must be out there (surely ONE of their creators likes Fallout enough to port it over!), and that the .223 is a complete "homage" to Deckard's gun in Blade Runner... and given the love for that film, at least someone must have tried to add "Deckard's Gun" to a FPS at some point.

desert eagle will be dealt with

im sure millenia will not have a problem with using that skin, i remeber him saying he made it as sorta a fallout-ish look

as soon as the CS is out and i can get some animations to port into the game i will be sure to make a compile.

im planning on making dekards pistol for this as well.
