Psionics and Mutations

I was wondering how viable it would be to implement some sort of system in the game where, if psionic powers (specifically powerful ones) are used that the soldier himself has a chance of mutating from the sheer force of his psionic powers messing with the molecules of his/her body. The worst case scenario being the soldier turns into some sort of monster in the vein of 'The Thing' or a quivering mass of horribly flesh, teeth and tentacles. As far as game changes go I would assume this would include a complete reskin for the mutated version of the soldier, but behaviour wise it could possibly target the nearest living thing and have the behaviour of a beserker muton. Although I have no experience in modding myself this was just an idea that balance-wise would stop psionics being used extensively to hammer through alien forces as I managed to do on my playthrough on classic with 3 of them. Also it would make the game even riskier for those sado-masochists out there.
