gamepad (NOT Xbox USB) trouble (vista)

Recommended Posts

Greetings,

I set the functions normally under the game controller

joystick device settings menu, I.E. when I hit "button 4"

under "fire" the game recognizes and inputs "joystick button 4"

as the commanding input for the fire function, and so

on and so forth, completely setting up my usb controller

for playing the game, but when I exit the menu and resume

play, it doesn't respond to my controller at all, still only

the keyboard and mouse. I'd think that if it weren't

recognizing the gamepad, then it wouldn't allow me to

set the inputs under the controls device menu, clearly

Fallout 3 is perfectly capable of supporting my gamepad,

but for some reason is over riding it with the mouse and

keyboard functions. Note that I'm using vista, and not

using an Xbox 360 controller of any sort, just a regular

ol' 12 button usb controller.

Any thoughts? I'm rather disappointed because I'm very

bad at handling first person interactive games with a

mouse and keyboard and it appears as though I'm the

one that's doing something wrong, maybe missing a save

configuration button somewhere?

Thankee sai.

Oh my... kids these days. : ( Having to deal with FPS games on consoles! The shaaame!

If the joysticks work fine and it's just the buttons giving you problems, a potential workaround would be to use the program Joy2Key ( http://www.electracode.com/4/joy2key/JoyTo...h%20Version.htm ) to have your controller's buttons perform keyboard key presses. I hope that helps you until you're able to figure out a solution to your problem.
