charwo
OK, playing a ghoul has had some appeal to me for some time. However, I am critical of how ghouls must look to do it. Let me explain my telling a lore friendly back story where the ghoul esh as is is not appropriate: General Daniel Miller is living proof that old soldiers never die, they just fade away. Born in 1985, he enlisted in the Marines and fought in many overseas operations and was comfortably retired before the resource wars began. In 2077, seeking to live longer and aid a new generation of American troops by volunteering in human experiments in radiotropic gene therapy. In other words, altering his DNA to repair and refurbish itself in the presence of radiation. It was working, but it also meant that Daniel was one of the first people to become ghouls in the aftermath of the Great War exchange. So in 2281, he is a Courier ghoul. However, Daniel was tough and old school and invigorated enough by the prewar experiments to venture out. Step by painful step he used old technology and sheer cussedness to find doctors and auto docs to repair the damage ghoulification did to his body...to a point. Daniel Miller is sill a ghoul, but has had extensive plastic surgery to his face and body that he looks like he did as a young man. This is an illusion however, as the nose and ears are prosthetic, the hair and skin were grown in medical pods and then grafted on and in terms of functionality, he is exactly a typical first generation Ghoul, but with the appearance of a young man. That is, except his raspy voice (which he's trained himself to the point it no longer sounds ghoulish, like Raul) and the fact that his eyes remain that of a typical ghoul, and as a result he almost always wears something to cover his eyes. Daniel never disputes being a ghoul, but he will never admit it, because as far as he's concerned he's in the same boat: a lonely old man made unpretty by events earlier in life. This is not only possible, by lore, but with Raul, except the plastic surgery, it's been done on camera. I consider this a wonderful development in fallout lore. I would like to play a character who has, if only pushed by vanity, overcome the disfigurement of ghoulification. The question is, is there a mod that will let me play as a ghoul with human meshes. I understand not every ghoul character could or would do this, but I figured someone would. And if I could play a human meesh with ghoul eyes (the opposite has been don with cannon characters like Michael Masters). that would be even better. Does such a mod exist? I think you may be working this angle from the wrong end. If the character is visually indistinguishable from a human, I'd just add traits that would make the player seem ghoul like. Oh and also alter the gamesetting for rads to 0, or add some script that automatically removes rads and turns them into health (seems like a faintly recall such a perk already existing). charwo
EDIT: wrong thread.... What I meant to say: What are the in game mechanics for non-feral ghouls? In terms of stat penalties, advantages, how they respond to radiation and such. Cause I can probably cook up a perk that will give that, bu I need to know exactly what those mechanics are. Quetzlsacatanango
Rads don't affect NPCs and there is no vanilla playable ghoul race. So to my knowledge they really don't address it.
charwo
Is there ghoul race mod that does this? I would think a the rad regeneration perk, which in vanilla only starts working at 400 rads (or it did in FO3) would need the threshold moved down to zero rads and that would work. That said, if there is not such statistic, how is the healing factor glowing ghouls have on ghouls and themselves get calculated? I thought in that case the rad generation and healling factor of glowing ones were linked.

I think the biggest one in regard to play mechanics is radiation. Making a perk that makes you immune from radiation (or even heals you some) would be a good start; "Radiation poisoning cannot get worse for the ghouls, though it can hasten the process of decay and lead to their decline into the feral state as described above. However, many ghouls report feeling healthier when exposed to low-level radiation, and thus make their homes near locations with acute background radiation." Ghouls are weaker, but have heightened senses so that can be part of a trait (-1 STR +1 PER); "Although lacking strength due to decayed tissue, ghouls have heightened senses making them more perceptive and lucky than other wasteland humanoids. As a result, chems like jet barely affect them. Doctor Barrows, when healing the player, bemoans the fact that "You humans are so fragile."" Raul talks about how he gets old and slow, so if your pre-war there might be a minor physical penalty. Other aspects are good for character development, but don't really come into play most of the time, like extreme longevity, sterility, the chance to go mad/feral etc.
