By the way, Gearbox made Borderlands 2, not Firaxis. I think Firaxis made Civilization 5, which is a really good game.

 

Yes, but 2K were the publishers for borderlands 2....

 

And i said "last game ill buy from firaxis/2k" so i meant both of the companies.

 

 

Why would you take it out on the publisher? They have nothing to do with this sort of thing. By this logic, you might as well boycott Take-Two while you're at it, cause, ya know, they own 2K, which means you'll also have to stop playing Rockstar games.

 

Plus, you'd also miss out on Bioshock Infinite.

Well, the OP is still on point: We won't be getting any help on this for awhile.

 

Well its mainly the fact that they went from having easily accessible .ini files that could be modded, to baking those into the .exe making it harder to mod, and then suddenly making the game read the same ini files from a central server making it even harder to mod.

Sure this last step might make sense in the view of what they said about updating earlier, but the step from having open ini files to baking them into the exe is a rather strange one (especially since they left the original ini files in the open, just not being used by the game). [...] If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it probably is a duck...

 

That any of the developers/publishers are intentionally blocking said modding, well that is pure speculation. Its unfortunate that we can't get some honesty though, so we weren't making guesses based on the very-possibly-ambiguous-but-damn-convincing behavior (like the cooking of .ini, requirement to stay offline of Steam not just multiplayer, etc.. there are a lot of good reasons to do that, apart from preventing modding: performance, security, fairness to multiplayer without added expense, as examples). Honesty will never leave the a PR desk at a gaming company though, especially with so many scapegoat reasons (that don't damage the company's reputation) floating around.

 

I'm not saying I would rule it out as a possibility and I know there are reasons as to why they might want to prevent modding, but based on what we've got to go on, I think it's a pretty big leap to come to that conclusion :)

 

::sigh:: I guess whatever negative conclusions we come to will continue to breed, sully their reputation, etc..

::sarcasm gone:: ..but I really don't feel bad about it since its a natural by-product of a game company being a pain in the ass to same game company's best (and cheapest!) cross-promoters: modders.
