forskyrimmods
So some non esp/esl texture mods have a folder path such as G:\Mod Organizer\mods\Skyrim 3D Furniture\textures\S3DFurniture\display cases In this folder contains textures which retexture objects in skyrim, but it does not have the same path as the texture has in the vanilla game. I use mod organizer. I tested to see if it actually replaces the texture and it does. Can someone explain to me how this works, how does it know which texture to replace and which texture takes priority if it does not have the same path. Sorry if this is a stupid question, my mind can't figure it out Thanks!!

As far as path goes, there are scripts that instruct things to replace vanilla content and may not have the same path.Depends on the leveled skills of the mod author. Scripting will override direct interactions regardless of path.

Shabdez
If it is a texture mod and comes with it's own meshes, the information about what textures are to be loaded for a certain 3d model is stored in the mesh file (including the path). If there are no meshes in the mod, an other mod must provide the meshes with those altered paths.
