How big is it anyway?

All mis-matched elements aside, (ie, where the various meshes don't actually mesh), how big is the skyrim map? I just walked from Solitude to Markarth "the back way", ie, along the northern coast until it fades into only terrain (no trees, no shrubs, no grass) until I found a small gap I could cross over the mountains on (which just happened to be slightly SW of Markarth)

 

Got curious and did the same (similar) coming out of Windhelm and traveling east along the road until it died out, then followed terrain around and behind the Eastern mountains until I was able to slip up into the area behind Fort DawnGuard (although there I had to cheat a little to get over a misplaced mesh from the ocean

 

Anyone else do the walkabout thing?

I remember a topic where someone did do something like that and his conclusion was that Skyrim is about the size of Poland.
