M-COM: Incubator Unknown

SO I have a plan, mostly it spawned with a silly idea of replacing Chrysalids with incubators and having them spawn magical girls rather than zombies, but now I have slightly grander designs.

anybody who has NO IDEA what I'm talking about refer to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puella_Magi_Madoka_Magica

Incubators are eldritch abominations from the 9th circle of beyond that coerce little girl into making a 'contract' with them, turning these girl into the typical Japanese sailor moon sort or character. what these evil bastards don't tell you is that your soul is crushed into a little gem and your body is just a husk that you possess and animate like a puppet, your soul has a limited range and oh yeah when you get depressed you turn into a world ending monster called a witch.

but you never asked......

anyway what I want to do is replace the models and animations of certain aliens with small four legged critters, what I need is advice, or maybe help for example I have no idea how to replace the models used in x-com or the animations, or what type of rigging x-com's engine feels comfortable with or anything.

very inexperienced with this sort of thing but I am on a game's design course so this is the sorta thing I should be doing in my spare time and hell any experience is good experience right? so I'm not asking for help, I'm asking for advice. anything that can be given, from web tutorials to first hand experience.

You might want to read up on the main threads in this forum to get a feel of what has already been accomplished in the way of modding XCOM:EU.

You'll soon realize that this is by no stretch of the imagination a mod-friendly game. The main problem is that game files are stored in cooked upks that cannot be modified easily with the UDK.

Even though we have some experienced and talented people working hard on it, the further we got yet is changing a few values and operators in the game scripts through hex editing.

Assuming you could get all the modeling and animation done towards what you described, we do not have the tools to put them in game at this time, and probably will not in the near future.

Honestly there are probably better suited games for the type of modding you are shooting for.
