Best Nvidia settings for ENB's?

So I installed my first ENB, Photorealistic Tamriel and I think my PC specs are pretty good, but I've noticed some frame drops. It happens mainly near areas with a lotta trees, and I have 3D Trees installed so thats probably partly it but I wanna try and keep that mod. Does anyone know what I should change in my Nvidia settings? What should I change to make the most out of my parts? Any settings I should change in the ENB's settings?

 

Specs:

AMD Ryzen 5 2600 3.4 GHz 6-Core Processor

G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6 GB WINDFORCE OC Video Card

Anti Aliasing - a rendering technique used to prevent "jagged" lines (e.g. on edges of furniture or weapons). In many cases, it is best to use ENBs antialiasing, so you should disable similar options in the Nvidia control panel and also in the base game.

Thanks for the explanation. That enables me to look for the setting(s) for my card (Nvidia setting AND game setting). Much appreciated.

Ok so for the card settings (NVidia) I see

 

Antialiasing - FXXA (off)

Antialiasing - Gamma Correction (on)

Antialiasing - Mode (application-controlled)

Antialiasing - Setting (application-controlled) - << this is grayed out

Antialiasing - Transparency (off)

 

So should I shut down the gamma one as well?

 

One additional question. Should I see some sort of feedback from the game when I use shift-F12? (like a notice message or something?). I'm not sure if it's on or off. (and I don't see any visible difference when I click shift-F12)

I wouldn't change the AA settings in the NVIDIA control panel. If you want to disable antialiasing, then turn it off in the Skyrim Launcher (don't run the SKSE launcher). Sometimes ENB presets come with SMAA (a different method for antialiasing), so it may be a good idea to not have two forms of AA running. If you want to turn off SMAA for performance, then it's often found in [ENBEFFECT.TXT].

 

You should be able to open the ENB config menu using Shift+Enter. That's the easiest way to tell if ENB is working. Shift+F12 should toggle the effects on/off, and is usually very noticeable. Note that these keys can be changed through enblocal.ini.

 

You can experiment by turning off various effects in the ENB config menu. As previously mentioned, Ambient Occlusion is a framerate killer. Skylighting is another that you may want to try. If you want to keep your changes, then hit "Save Configuration".

Hi Grospolina.

Thanks for the advise. I'll try shift-enter. But tbh, I'm not sure Shift-F12 is doing anything on my system, possibly due to the keyboard itself. Either that or there's no feedback when one uses it. My game graphics don't change at all (visibly) when I use Shift-F12

No problem.

Here are the default key values for enblocal.ini:

Check yours to see if it matches. Some ENB presets authors change them for whatever reason. KeyCombination=16 is the Shift key. KeyUseEffect=123 is the F12 key. KeyEditor=13 is the Enter key.

was kinda hoping it wouldn't (so I could say "Ahah!" and fix it), but it matches.

 

I noticed an entry towards the bottom of enblocal.ini

EnableEdgeAA=false

 

so maybe it's already optimized. idk. but nonetheless, shift F12 doesn't *appear (visually) to do anything in my install.

 

Anyway.... it's not as if my rendering is awful or anything. it's pretty nice actually... I just thought maybe it could be nicer. I didn't get here by any sort of "expert-level" manipulation of the installations, just guess work and expensive hardware :wink:

Does Shift+Enter open the config menu? When the Bethesda logo appears at startup, does it say anything about ENBseries in the top-left corner? If neither of these work, then ENB isn't working at all.
