Enable armor tinting

Just thought I'd share a way to enable tinting the armor of your soldiers.

1: Open \XCom-Enemy-Unknown\XComGame\Config\DefaultGame.ini

2: Add these three lines in the end of the file.

[XComStrategyGame.XGCustomizeUI]

bArmorDecoAvailable=true

bArmorTintAvailable=true

3: Save the file and you're done!

Even though I own the PC Special Edition which included the "DLC", I'm glad to see this is possible.

It's ridiculous that the the preorder/first DLC was what it was, anyway. That should have been part of the game, not resold for an extra $5!

A great preorder bonus (later released as paid DLC, by all means) would have been the hidden Sid Meyer/Ken Levine "hero" characters; something non-essential but fun and special as a nice "thank you" for early buyers.

Gouging people five bucks for a few armor redecos is indicative of the worst kind of greed in today's game industry, IMO.

Whilst I agree partially with banjo-oz, in that this "DLC" is a bit pathetic (even for $5) I think the mods should consider removing this post. As Jigjam quite rightly pointed out, if we start posting mods that basically give away DLC content for free, we may incur the wrath of "El Corporatas Aquitas" and that's the LAST thing this budding X-Com modding community needs right now ...

The game has already contracted "Consolitis" so they can sell to kids what we PC users usually end up getting via mods ... So lets not stir the games developers up if we can help it.

1. Trying to rip 5$ from users for something already in the game is BS.

2. Multiplayer is useless, so if people really wanted this without paying, and you couldn't mod it, they'd pirate it.

3. This was achieved by changing two booleans in a .ini file, if they really wanted to stop people from doing this they would've hidden this better.

I see both sides of this, though I obviously and definitely agree with the whole "charging for armor colors already in the game is despicable" point of view. Even if they'd made the DLC free, but kept it for "preorders only" for a couple of months before releasing it publicly, I wouldn't feel so bad.

I'm assuming the armor redecos (not just colors) and "classic hair" can't be just modded back in too? I could understand Firaxis complaining about THAT (since - whether they're on the game disc already or not - it would be "adding new content meant for DLC"). But armor colors?! Surely only the greediest of companies would want to stop people having just that (and its only us PC folks that can mod anyway)!

Wait, this is the current "day-one-on-disc-DLC" industry we're talking about now, isn't it? :(

Agreed, agreed, and agreed.

Yet the point stands.

As silly as it is when you think rationally about it, it's still not in the best interest of the modding community to provide workarounds to paid services. I doubt Firaxis would have much to say about it, but I fear 2K would.

We won't negotiate with DLC-terrorists! :pirate:

Exactly. But who's to blame, those who do it or those who allow it?

I believe they can, without much more trouble than for the process above.

I'm not going to get into more detail...

I found a few lines in XComContent.ini that point to something like that, without going into more detail... ;)

Edit: FFS, this is available everywhere. Go read this and enjoy your DLC, it's not like I care:

So it seems it would be possible to make even changing nickname & nationality available, not to mention some "easter egg-super soldiers"?

Edit3:

So it seems you can possibly change the country names and city names aswell?
