JjJetPlan3
It has been a long time since i last looked into Skyrim, last time I played was when it came out for the 360 and i stopped playing it soon after cause i couldn't mod it. Iv since bought a pc and have played a lot of Fallout 4 and modded it. Decided i wanted to look into Skyrim cause i know there is way more mod options for it. Right now Skyrim SE is on sale but when i go to look at Skyrim mods on Nexus there are two different tabs. One being Skyrim and the other being Skyrim SE. My question is what is the difference? Can i buy Skyrim SE and still use the mods from Skyrim tab? If i cant how do i go about getting the old Skyrim?
thumbincubation
Some of the Skyrim mods (we affectionately call it "oldrim") can be used in Special Edition without issue. I'm thinking of things like Cabal120s Amidianborn textures, when I say that. The majority of "oldrim" mods can be used if properly converted to Special Edition. This isn't my strong point, but I gather it includes opening, saving, and closing the mod in the Special Edition's own (separate) creation kit, and running the meshes through an optimization process. This can be done manually in Nifskope, or you can use a mod called Nif Optimizer to do it in batches. A great many, but by no means all or even most, of the Skyrim mods have been ported over to Special Edition already, with more showing up all the time. Many of the big name mods are already there, including Alternate Start, SkyUI, Amazing Follower Tweaks, Campfire and Frostfall, and many more. Special Edition also has its own version of SKSE, to enable some of these mods. Taking into account the 64 bit engine, vs the mod selection, I would consider Skyrim Special Edition the winner there. JjJetPlan3
So most big mods have been converted over and if there is one i might want to try out the Nif Optimizer can do it for me?
thumbincubation
Yes, Nif Optimizer if there are meshes, and the special editions Creation kit (CK64). If there are no meshes, you should only need the CK. I am not sure if it can be done with xedit or not. I believe the Creation Kit and Modders section of the Skyrim SE forums has some info on how to port, though the search function doesn't seem to want to work for me today. If you google "port to se" though, you should be able to get back to it by choosing nexus links. There is also info on Arthmoor's site, which I believe is iguanadons.
