SnowberryGal
Hello. I decided I no longer wanted to use Galandil’s Holds mod so I went into File Manager and deleted the relevant files from Data. I checked the Textures and Meshes folders and deleted Holds folders from there too. I also emptied my Recycle Bin as well. * Is this the best way to delete/uninstall a complicated mod instead of using Vortex? I’ve read some mod authors say to delete straight from File Manager is the best way. Anyway, what’s happened is that Holds seems to have written itself into my Skyrim system. I can see Holds settlement expansions on approach to a town, say Riften etc or if I’m looking down onto it, say if I’m above Falkreath, Holds buildings just pop in. If I get close enough, Holds buildings pop out. I’m assuming these are Holds Lods. Another thing is Holds has written itself into my Creation Kit. Buildings Lods will pop in if I’m far enough away from the cell I want to mod. So say I zoom out above Winterhold, I can see Holds Lods. Zoom in, they disappear. I can also see Holds buildings in my Fast Travel map. I have created three new mods since I noticed this Holds issue. Do I have to delete the mods? Will they be corrupted? Would Holds mod have written itself into my other older mods or other people’s mods I’ve downloaded? Do I have to uninstall Skyrim SE and the Creation Kit? If I do this should I transfer all mods I use into a temporary folder and then put them back into Data once I’ve reinstalled SSE? I’ve recently deleted all my saves except one and am happy to start a completely new game. Would that one save I’ve kept be corrupted by Holds? It’s a save from absolutely ages ago, I just like the avatar. Edited November 28, 2019 by SnowberryGal
Grospolina
No, the best way to uninstall a mod in Vortex is to use Vortex. Vortex allows you to disable a mod without deleting it completely if you want. The game won't be able to see it. Then you can uninstall it afterwards. Why would deleting it manually be better? You're likely to miss some files, especially for a mod as large as Holds The City Overhaul. You could go into File Manager afterwards to see if it missed anything, but that's not likely unless there's something wrong with Vortex. You may have missed removing the object LODs. That's the only reason I can think of that they would appear in the CK. They're found in Data\meshes\Terrain\Tamriel\Objects and Data\meshes\Terrain\Tamriel\Trees. If you've run DynDOLOD or LODGen, then you should run it again. The mods you've created shouldn't be affected, as long as you didn't add any of the Holds ESPs as a master. Your old save would more likely be corrupted by the fact that you removed a large mod in the middle of it. It may or may not work properly. You could use RaceMenu to save your face preset if that's all you want.
SnowberryGal
By the Nines! Thank you so much for your reply. I went into the Data folders you’d suggested and deleted files as appropriate and it worked. No more unwanted tree and buildings Lods. What a relief! And no need to uninstall anything. Thank you.
