Some ideas.

Hello everyone.

 

I spent quite some time in this game and I want to talk about things that IMO are most in need of revision.

 

1) First of all i do not like absolutely the look of the all laser and plasma weapons, especially heavy ones. I mean, these glowing red and green bars - who ever would have thought that it looks good? It would be great if anyone could change the textures of those glowing rods for regular metal.

 

2) I wish to see inventory free from stupid restrictions (like limited use of different weapons by different classes). I want to arm my "heavy" with assault rifle and RPG (or MG and pistol) and get some tactical advantage from this (like better speed). I want to arm my "support" with shotgun and my "assault" with MG. I want to take additional grenade instead of a pistol.

#1 has been requested here. Watch that thread.

 

#2 can be done. I altered the properties of grenade to include eWP_Pistol instead of eWP_Secondary. Grenades appeared in place of pistol loadout on the first mission, and weapon-switch enables the grenade for a Throw action. I assume that after the first mission, the loadout can be manually changed so I could bring two rookies with rifle-grenade-grenade, and two with rifle-pistol-grenade. I have no save file outside a mission at the moment, or I would test it now.

 

For the other weapons being used by other classes, I would experiment with adding eWP_AnyClass in place of one of the eWP_None properties on the shotgun. If your Support can't equip it, try taking replacing eWP_Assault with eWP_AnyClass instead (be sure to revert eWP_AnyClass to eWP_None so there is only one instance of it though - just to be safe).

 

I am not sure about granting more movement based on weapon loadout just yet. I see no property on weapons which affects movement.

There are multiple threads in the mod talk section about making weapons available for all classes. Start there.

You'll see that AnyClass does not always work as intended, and eWP_Sniper and eWP_Heavy have indesirable consequences (a weapon with Sniper will get the short range penalty from the sniper rifle ; a weapon with Heavy will have less ammmo than others, namely 3 shots, like the LMG). Equipping heavies with pistols is more difficult than it sounds, I don't think it has been done yet.

There are people looking for workarounds to these problems. Again you can check the progress by looking for the relevant threads in the mod talk section. (or wait for solutions to be found and be posted here, but that might be a while, and I'd rather see you help if you can :) )
