Dagger of Symachus
I'm not sure about the math, but I am positive that the security skill affects your chance of showing the most of a characters inventory. It may also effect how easily you can remain undetected while stealing (along with stealth) but I know that if you go into the console and see that the character your trying to be stealing from has a high security, then they will be harder to steal from then people with low security. Oh yeah, and chameleon spells are extremely useful for stealing.
cmac
I'm not sure about the math, but I am positive that the security skill affects your chance of showing the most of a characters inventory.No. Security governs lockpicking and trap-disarming. No more. And the NPC's total inventory (that is not an equippable or equipped item) is ALWAYS displayed. The skill for pickpocketing is Sneak. Sneak governs your chance of access to the NPC's inventory. then they will be harder to steal from then people with low security.No. Quite the contrary, in fact. If you have a higher Sneak (NOT security skill) and the target NPC has a lower one, it should be easier to open their inventory. Much as it is easier to buy lower and sell higher with a merchant who has a lower Mercantile skill but I know that if you go into the console and see that the character your trying to be stealing from has a high security,There is no such command, apart from accessing the NPC's info in the CS. It may also effect how easily you can remain undetected while stealing (along with stealth)Not at all. Once the target NPC's inventory has been accesses, it will remain so for as long as the OC chooses, or until he/she decied to remove an item or close that NPC's 'pocket.' mirrorburn
wonderful. so i guess its a case of literally sneaking up behind someone and clicking to interact with them to see their inventory?
Malchik
No. Security governs lockpicking and trap-disarming. No more. And the NPC's total inventory (that is not an equippable or equipped item) is ALWAYS displayed. I'm sure this cannot be right cmac. I often try to pickpocket for things I know are there, Sotthilde's code book, Auriel's bow etc. Sometimes they show up and sometimes they don't. In what will be my last game of MW (at least for some time) I clicked on Sotthilde three times before the book appeared and each of the other times different items were shown. Something therefore affects the amount of inventory you can see. Does Luck come into it?
Evien
A good way to train for free is to go to a tavern. Once there go to a corner and just sit in the corner sneaking. This will be boring so you could just tape ctrl/left analog down and just let it sit there for an hour.
