nuts4re
i have been reading up on the crash issues. i play with the game in a window, and monitor my asus ai booster data. it seems to me the cpu utilization gets pegged sometimes, and it causes system instability, i also see this after 40 minutes of play. my specs: thermaltake armor super atx tower with 7 120mm fans. amd 6400 black with variable speed cpu tower cooler. 8 gig of ocz heat synced ram running in dual ddr ( 16 gigs). twin evga 8800gt cards running in sli. i have a licensed copy of xp 64 with all the updates, and current evga / nvidia drivers. my cpu temps peak at a max of 53 Cecilius before i have issues. system stays around 25 degrees most of the time on the net . seems there may be a program instability or memory leak that causes a crash or cascade failure? my pc just locks up, and i cannot alt tab or cont alt del out of it. search is not bringing may useful threads up, so i am browsing topics page by page on the freeze and stability issues. i have many other new games i can play at max on this pc, and fallout3 is the only one i have ever had such terrible issues with. lucky for bethesda its "fun enough" when it works, or i would have just tossed it. i dont buy "steam" or "valve" games anymore for personal reasons. nor will i buy sony products for the same reasons. perhaps they will patch the game in a way that makes it more stable. the Witcher Enhanced is great fun, and i applaud them for re releasing the game with the tweaks in place. I have problems only with this game too... I have: Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty 4, Devil May Cry 4, Far Cry 2, Prince of Persia, Tomb Raider Underworld, NFS Undercover, Oblivion and Fallout 3, and the only game that ''hates'' me is Fallout 3 :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash:
JamesMilamber
I think pretty much everyone's having the same problem. Using the "pcb" command (purge cell buffer) in the console works as a temporary fix, and alt-tab'ing usually takes care of the rest. Every time I alt-tab out, I check the CPU usage history - invariably F3 has maxed out one core while the other is idle. Strange, I know, but...meh, it's playable. Just remember to quicksave a lot. NightshadeAnarch
I think I have discovered something... When I reboot the computer and start the game, I can play at the barren for a long time (30-40 minutes) and after a while, the game crashes and... if I start playing again the game crashes inmidiatly, but if I reboot the computer again and start the game, then I can play for another 30-40 minutes without errors  I don't know why this happen... :wallbash: When you reboot your computer, your CPU and videocard fan spin at maximum speed for awhile. That might be enough to cool them down. When you actually start playing, heat starts building up slowly over time if the fans aren't cycling efficiently enough leading them to become unstable and crashing for you. Is there a way to make the fans spin faster? :thanks: For my Nividia card I use RivaTunerhttp://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=163 Great little program. JAD2008
RivaTuner rocks, now my GPU's temperature doesn't pass from 45ºC but the game still crashes. As I said, is NOT a problem with my computer, is problem with the game... HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL ARE TRYING TO HELP ME
Starch
Fallout 3 works fine then all of sudden it crashes: Some places I have fallout 3 crashes: Arlington Library (mod problem )Near Arlington LibraryRivet CiteMegaton HouseGreener Pastures Disposal SiteAnacostia CrossingAnchorage Memorial (mod problem) I think some mods are making Fallout 3 to crash but I don't know which one(s). (I wish there was a program to show which files are causing the instability) The current Mods I got rid due to instability: (for me anyways) Regulators ride awayWelcome to WastelandVault tech portable storageAnchorage Memorial UpgradeUnique weaponsRusty ShovelWench

I don't have any of those mods but if i did and was having the problems you are i'd check the comment section of the mods to see if anyone else is having problems with them.I wonder if it is caused by mods,do you have all unneeded programs shut down while playing such as anti-virus programs and any program that automatically update such as windows update?I don't remember how much memory you have but shutting down any services you don't need may help.I believe Fallout needs even more memory than the minimum requirements suggest. I have 4gigs but still hunt down and kill any unneeded processes and services.Every time i install a program i check to see whatnonsense it decided i couldn't live without.Sorry i don't have more suggestions but people have had so many diverse problems with Fallout that i'm convinced that it just wasn't tested enough under different system configurations.Since Fallout i've installed and played GTA4,Mass Effect,Bioshock,Farcry2,Left for Dead and Tomb Raider Underworld and have not had any of the problems i've had with Fallout.Perhaps someone with the mods you have may be able to help.Hope you get it sorted out,i know how frustrating it can be. Drahau
Ok here's the deal. I run Fallout 3 on: Pentium 4 3.2ghz1gb DDR2 Kingstone Ram (800 mhz)Geforce 8500 (with newest drivers) And now the strange thing. I used to play Fallout 3 on: Cleron 2.6ghz1gb DDR 333mhz (no name)Geforce 7300 The issue:When I was running Fallout on my old PC it worked just damn fine! To be honest I sold my old junk to my friend and he plays F3 on it with almost no issues (occasional Crash that is :) ). When I upgraded I had to format my HDD. Brand new windows, same version of codecs, C++ libraries and .NET framework. Guess what ? The damn game crashes every 10-15 minutes! But hey that's not all! When playing through the whole Vault 101 thing the game runs just fine. But when I play in the wastes for a while it simply exits the game. Nothing. No error message no nothing. Now for the issue NON solvers:Codecs are FINE! The whole disable enabel thing hasn't done a thing.Installed 3.5 framework and later on reinstalled 3.0 with SP 1 and then SP2Tried ALT + TAB , helps just a tiny bit.Yes I have the newest drivers (also tested on OMEGA drivers)Yes I do have mods, same as my freind with my old junk, it runs FINE for him.Tried different versions of C++ librariesTried the Official PatchTried the non Official Patch Tried setting graphics Max and Ultra lowAll this had NO effect whatsoever. Tha game surley has PMS! Why ? Uhh... if the game runs fine... Don't turn it off! Whenever trying to save (auto, quick, hard, console) the game just exits. So yes, roam the wasteland and if the crash dosen't get you, stay there. Ugh! Nuff said. Does any one has the slightest idea what's this whole thing about? I mean really. You have exactly the same problem as me.While playing at the Wastelands, after 5-10 minutes, the game close itself without any error. This happens to me when I enter some dungeon area too, but when I reload the game again, after be inside the dungeon, the game runs fine. We are at the same situation, we have tryed all the possible solutions and nothing worked... And as I said, this is the ONLY game that makes me suffer :wallbash:
