DukeEffington
A few months ago, the modder Rokenz set their mods to hidden, citing hate from the community. This included a lot of very well done and popular face remodels of Triss, Ciri, etc. From what I could tell, this has happened in the past as well with Rokenz. At the time, I didn't think much of it because it was one modder and I didn't know much about the situation. I had no idea if it was because they were just sensitive to criticism, or if they really were receiving hate mail and comments. But now another modder, Bububull, has hidden their mods as well. Including popular remodels of Yennefer's face and outfits. They also claim an "abysmal lack of respect" from this community has driven them to stop releasing mods for it. So whats the deal? It's clear there's a pattern emerging of popular face remodelers leaving the Witcher 3 modding scene due to alleged hate. If the claims are true, what hateful comments and dm's are they receiving? Why is this particular Nexus community apparently susceptible to this kind of immature behavior towards people just offering free mods? And why is it directed towards remodelers of female characters in particular? I bring all this up because I enjoy a few of Rokenz and Bububull's mods. Some of them I don't like. But I never sent them hateful dm's or comments. I downloaded what I liked, and passed on what I didn't. As a mature adult would. And I was thankful because there are no modders that owe me anything. But now, I won't be able to enjoy future mods from those two. And if I had been unlucky enough to have deleted any of their mods from Vortex, those previous mods would have been lost to me as well. The modding community is suffering the loss of good creators due to alleged abuse. So why the hell hasn't there at least been some kind of discussion about this, let alone actions to stop this from occurring? I don't want more modders to leave an already quiet modding scene. Deleted67195711User
heavy sigh What you see with Witcher 3 and your two authors has become a pattern in several games. Elder Scrolls and Fallout (the games I play) have also had authors remove their mods in the last year. And good authors, too. The abuse by users who think that a free mod entitles them to something more has grown beyond the level of tolerance. What is worse, some authors have turned on their fellows. Arguments over author's rights and the exercise of an authors copyright and other Intellectual property rights have become nasty and insult filled. The cathedral vs parlor discussions have had venomous and hate-filled arguments. And most recently, the debate about mod-packs has had some abusive discussions which have driven even more authors to the exit. Worst of all, it isn't just users and authors, it is the Nexus too. The Nexus administrative policies are part of the problem. The Nexus policies on an authors IP have changed. Piracy of another authors content used to be an instant ban, but now, theft is "punished" with just a simple warning. Also, with their latest changes to their ToS, the Nexus has claimed even greater authority over how an authors content is distributed, allowing Nexus to use delivery mechanisms which the author might not approve. So, to escape abusive people, to regain control of the distribution of their mods, and/or to combat the theft of their mods, authors are removing their mods from Nexus, their content forever lost. Sad, ain't it.
