Enabling body part targeting in melee-VATS?

P.P.S> i want to cut fingers too - u can't shoot without ur fingers!

Wouldn't it be possible to make the melee weapons as a ranged weapon "template", give the weapon a range statistic in the vicinty of a melee weapon and use melee animations for the attacks to circumvent the current VATS melee setup?

 

I'm of course just talking out of my hat here as I have no experience making weapons or anything else for that matter in either Fallout or Oblivion, but it just seems logical that you can cheat the game into thinking it should use ranged VATS while playing melee animations. :biggrin:

I have looked through the main esm for this myself. I searched for keywords like "melee" and even looked at the templates for the melee weapons. I tried to track down whatever it is that dictates body parts vs. whole body in VATS. I found a couple of values (everything seems so experimental in tesnip right now), I changed the ones I thought may be responsible for turning off body part aiming, but I was wrong with each one :(

 

I hope somebody smarter than me figures this out.
