Am I getting old?

Yo

I have a pretty hectic schedule, I work long hours and come home to housework and such. During the day on weekends I use the time for gardening and working on the garage (turning it into another room.)

Now the only time I get to play on the PC for a suitable amount is at night on the weekend. I used to be able to "go all night!!!" but now I find myself falling asleep at the monitor and its not because I'm bored! I just cant stay awake. I think to myself "Ok tonight, going to play till about 4 and end up crawling to bed at around 12...PATHETIC!

I work all night shifts sometimes (7 til 7) and I do get tired, but I dont fall asleep...often.

Any advice for me?

To answer your first question - yes you are.

Well, if I'm getting old then damnit, you're coming with me!

Secondly, when you're at home on your game you're likely not replicating the same conditions you have at work. You need to be drinking lots of water (or whatever it is you imbibe at work) and although it can spoil some games, have the same sort of ambient lighting. Finally, remember to take a break and walk about a bit, also as you probably would at work.

Of course, it could just be that you're not getting enough rest because at the weekend you're not spending the same amount of time sleeping as you're forced to do during your week-days. :)

Cheers.

Yeah, I like to play with the lights off of course, perhaps if I introduce a dimmer light into the room.

Probably does not help that I'm in bed usually after 11 on weeknights and up at 6...

I'll try the water tips as well.

I'm just really keen to play some Oblivion on my new PC but I'm only able to afford a couple of hours a week if I'm really lucky. I guess thats the trade-off for having extra responsibilities and a life outside of computer games.

Thanks Michlo!

I get up everyday between 10am-11am and go to bed around 5-6am, but my days are not nearly as busy as yours appear to be. If I worked a 12hour shift, then did house/garden/renovation work, I think I'd pass out when I sat down to play a game too. Anybody would. It could very well be that you are so active that when you sit in your comfy desk chair, your body is misinterpreting the comfort as a signal that it's okay to shutdown now. So you get really tired and sleepy.

Also, I agree with Michlo, stimulant drinks are bad in the long run and while its effects are active you may be too "jittery" to actually concentrate on anything.

That actually makes a lot of sense. :thanks:

Alright, so I'll play standing up.
