Khet
Maybe it's just me, maybe I was expecting it to be too much like the other Fallouts... but wtf is with the ending movie? I mean, there's only three changes you can make to it. You die, Lyon's dies, or you use the FEV Virus. But, what about the rest of the world? I disarmed the Megaton bomb, but Megaton was never mentioned in the movie. I helped/saved Arafu and Big Town... but those weren't mentioned, either. Fallout 2 ending, all the major towns were mentioned and depending on what you did would change the bit about that town... I dunno, but was I the only one kind of disappointed about that? The game is great, I love it (gonna play through as more of an eviler character now!) but the ending really ticks me off.
WrathOfDeadguy
I raised an eyebrow at how many of my good deeds were left out of the ending. I'd helped the runaway slaves restore the Lincoln Memorial, and there were a few shots of them and Lincoln with his head back on, but nothing else. It is indeed strange that Megaton wouldn't be mentioned at all- maybe it is if you blow it up instead of disarming the bomb. Can anyone confirm that? Armadous
In this thread we talked about the same thing. I will paste a bit from that. "Bethesda's claimed 300 endings or whatever only comes from the fact that you get to double the 4 possible ending clips (Good/Evil and weather or not you poisoned the water with the FEV virus) because you can play male or female and you get 8, 4 second clips of a picture frame of you and your father, which could be 8 permutations depending on what race/gender you pick and a handful of other cilps about 3 or 4 seconds long showing a single picture of some of the major side quest decisions you made accompanied by background music that is pleasant if you solved them for the better and edgy and tension filled if you solved them for the worse." All the clips that make up the end game movie are sitting right in your data folder under video I think as .bik files which can be played with the Bink and Smacker app. There isn't a damn thing in there about any of the major towns, other than the few second still image zoom clips. I have said it before and I'll say it again, it is damn disappointing.

I blew it up, and it showed a picture of the inside of the Saloon but i belive thats in all of the endings. i cant confirm otherwise but no megaton was not verbaly mentioned in the ending. is it possible to continue playing after you beat the game or a way to sort of beat the game but not end it... like just letting the chamber explode? Khet
I don't think there's anyway to continue after the 'end' of the game. Bethesda did a great job with Fallout 3, and I really love the OTS camera compared to the craptastic third person view in Oblivion (wonder if someone could make an Obliv mod for that? Hmm hmm) And despite the fact that it DOES feel like it's about 40% fallout and 60% Oblivion it's a fun game, but the ending absolutely and completely SUCKS. I can only pray that if Bethesda decides to make another Fallout game (which would be possible, and might be pretty fun) I seriously hope they move back to the multiple endings depending on what you saved/destroyed/let die. That's one reason why I loved Fallout 2 so much. I played through it a few times trying to get every possible 'ending' clip. Another game, Arcanum did something similar. Different endings depending on what you did, and it's awesome that a game does that. As for the little clip of the Megaton saloon, I disarmed the bomb and don't remember seeing it. bostondave
I'm highly disappointed that you can't continue playing the game after the main quest is done...a la Oblivion. I do hope someone makes a mod to fix this oversight... Aside from the ending though, the game is still great to play.
Seviche
I'm highly disappointed that you can't continue playing the game after the main quest is done...a la Oblivion. I do hope someone makes a mod to fix this oversight... Aside from the ending though, the game is still great to play.Well, the ending is supposed to be The Ending. Of you. Buh-bye. Enjoy your ashification in the control room you goody-two-shoe-you. I think the reason for the ending has more than one purpose. First, if the game had bombed, there wasn't any reason for them to worry about a need for continuation. You're dead. End of line, etc. Second, any expansion allows for a different starting area, with different options, and they don't really have to worry about (with the exception of Megaton) about any lasting storyline effects. Think about it, if they had carried through with the three-hundred or so different endings, how would they really make an add-on that allow you to continue your adventures. Of course, having Lyons do the deed could allow you to continue, and I think that should have been an option. But it wasn't, so there's a reason to download one of the level-cap removers here in the files section and explore your little heart out. I know I am. Well, I would be if those 'tards hadn't gotten themselves pinned on a hotel rooftop. Sheesh.
UlrikS
Bah. It's disappointing that you cannot play more after the game is finished, but i really don't see how they could fix that for everyone. What i missed most after the game was finished, though, is a better ending movie. Maybe something like in Fallout 1, where you see what happened to the other people, the towns you helped etc. But it's still a great game!
jaysus
read between the lines in the ending and you might understand why there is nothing behind it or why the game is so short at all... publishers!
caseycox
Of course, having Lyons do the deed could allow you to continue, and I think that should have been an option. But it wasn't, It was an option. You can let her do and then the narrator talks about how you didnt follow in your fathers "self sacrificing" footsteps.I was definitely disappointed.... i would have liked to hear how everything worked out after I encouraged Harold the treeman's growth EDIT: or did you mean, it being an option allowing you to continue the game?
