Texture-Modification ... called pre-size.mod

Hello people...

 

I love fallout one and two... was absolutly sceptical about FO3, but finally I love this game as well for being a full-fleshed fallout game with some anoying but forgivable bits from oblivion in between ...

 

my main concern about Fallout 3 are the texture resolution of the graphics... its hard to look at sometimes if you are used to thinks like Stalker or any other modern-day game-engine... so I started to double the srtandart resolution of all the textures of the game... this pretty much means to recreate all the textures ... of course you can use the orginial textures but to get a doubled amount of details into double-sized textures you need to add those destails yourself...

 

so I started this with the megaton-textures, and its not much till now, but as soon as I have developed some routine for editing the texures it might be possible to overhaul the whole game in an resonable ampunt of time...

 

thers still a lot of initial fixing and testing needed though... but the deeper thought behind that is of course to give FO3 a look that matches my own view of the fallout-realm more than the over-rotten, grey and grey world of FO3 ...

 

but I really dont know if this is going somewhere or somehow... FO3 crashes a lot because of a memory-leak I have noticed, wich appears on higher screen-resolutions and quality settings... yeah, and raizing all the texture sizes will put some more stress on any system ... lets see if I will be able to make a second update on this... but for now, there are the small results I have till this point... :D

 

yeah, and thanks for the toturial and the little-prog from your site wich helped me to extract the .bsa files and to get a starting point...

I changed two textures, wich I recreated complete with normal map...

 

I am just testing some elements and hoe the normal maps behave...

 

I can use 4096x4096 texures now, with compresion the .DDS files are only 10mb now instead of 50 :rolleyes:
