sse issue

I used to have sse on a secondary storage on my pc tho it would negate most of the in-game sounds when playing. For that reason, I decided to move it back to my main storage, with my mods along (in another file). I'm using MO2, and while the game worked fine before the change, it now won't even start (ctd when screen goes black) unless I stop using racemenu, but it was fine before and i didn't touch my mods in the meantime ?!? And if I try to load a save, it tells me that Skyrim.esm and such (dlcs) are missing, like it won't recognise it...I beg for help once again, thank you.

I also tried to download the game again but didn't change a thing

tried to reinstall racemenu but didn't work either, went through fnis and bodyslide but still crashes

I read a post from someone along the way a few weeks ago where they were having troubles with their installation. They ended up using some sort of utility that steam offers to check and repair an installation (afaik they said something about "validating skyrim files"). You might check on that.

Did you change your Skyrim Special Edition paths in MO2? You have to change it in the Settings menu and you have to change any MO executable links, like the one for SKSE.

Also, did you delete your old SSE folder (the one on your secondary storage)? You should delete or at least rename it so that it doesn't try loading anything from there.

I did change the path, either way MO2 tells you when the game isn't where it's said to be...also, steam automatically deletes any old file of the game you just moved out from the storage

Not everyone knows to use the Steam "move game" option. Also, Steam will only move vanilla files, which means that it won't move SKSE or ENB files.

I can't think of many reasons that the game would load up, but save games will not see Skyrim.esm, so I'm just gonna throw stuff out there:

  • Check your MO executable links and make sure that the "working directory" for each is either blank, or set correctly to the new location.
  • You don't have MO2 installed inside your Skyrim Special Edition folder, do you?
  • Can you double-check that the registry got updated properly? Open regedit, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Bethesda Softworks\Skyrim and check "Installed Path".
  • Can you check the files in your MO profile folder to see if there are any references to the old location?
  • What happens if you run skse64_loader.exe from outside MO2 and try to load your save? I know that your mods will be missing, but does it still tell you that Skyrim.esm is missing too?
  • Do you have separate, cleaned versions of your Update.esm and the DLC files? Not sure how that would cause a problem, but it could be relevant somehow.
  • Did you check the Plugins tab to make sure that the ESMs/ESPs are checked?

I uninstalled Mo2 and downloaded it again but still crashes, it's installed in another folder on my main storage, tho my previous save disappeared since it re-installed sse any other save I tried with skse64 outside of mo2 "worked" (skyrim.esm not missing ect...). Also, all plugins are checked or there are no issue for that, made especially sure of it

. Either way, thanks for the help, i'm going to check through my mods maybe ?
