Rookies earn customization.

Hey guys, I've been on nexusmods for a while now but this is my 1st post so be gentle please (or whatever).

 

Anywho, I was thinking of making a mod that Locks out customization options for new recruits then unlocks them as they grow (being fully unlocked by sergeant just like in the normal game)

 

Basically all rookies would start the game in the traditional XCOM with the bug eyed helmet (or other, that one is just my least favorite). Armour Tint being the 1st option for the sake of colour consistancy. Names still customizable.

When a rookie reaches squaddie rank they can change the colour of their garb as well as getting their ability.

When they reach Corporal the face and hair option unlock allowing them to "remove their helmets" granting them plot armour (because 90% of the time the guy in the helmet is gonna die).

Finally by Sergeant the nickname option unlocks as well as anything I haven't already covered.

 

I really just want some sort of "visual growth" in my soldiers. I have been doing this artificially so far byt changing the options any time I hire a new rookie, but the process can get tedious when you start doing mass hirings/firings (really don't know why I have an 80% sniper hiring rate).

 

Anywho if anyone can take a stab at this or at least give me an indication of where to start / IF it is even possible with the current modding techniques I would be greatly appreciative of their help.

I think I have Tracked down the area they are in, for when character is made. Have seen this listed in a few spots but have yet to run tests.

 

As for when I hire people, I usaly change the colors of new guys to Red, as they are my " Red Shirt guys " from old start trek and almost always die and expendable :)

as for others Soon as I get what they are I change there colors, and would love to find an area that lets me ajust that as well.

Assualt - White

Sniper - Black

Support - Yellow

Heavy - Dark blue

 

After messing with code as far as we get, I will then move to Texturing.
