thatsneezingkid
Hello, I've recently compiled a list of mods that I would like to play with on Special Edition, and I've realised I need a load order. Using the Master Load Order Guide from bethesda.net, I have managed to organise most of the mods in the recommended load order, along with a few that I guessed myself. However, the rest of the mods did not appear in that list, and I do not know where I would put them otherwise, so if someone would be able to put them in the right order/category, that would help me a lot. This hyperlink is the list of mods I would like to use. Also, please let me know if there are any compatibility mods that I would need. Thank you for reading and I hope you can help!
anjenthedog
Vortex will sort the load order out for you. If it encounters anything that requires your input it will flag the contention and offer you a menu of things that need addressing. And 9 times out of 10, its suggested changes "before(suggested)", or alternatively "after (suggested)" does the job without incident. FTR I'm running with 253 normal mods and I have installed each one using vortex and using vortex's inherent load order optimizer.

anjenthedog
Having said that...Make sure you check the requirements tabs for mods you want to install. Make sure to install those required "dependencies" (when they're encountered) PRIOR to the mod that requires them. Vortex will not sort that specific issue out for you. Dependencies (in the context of skyrim, some mod that provides resources of one kind or another, be it static elements or scripts) should always be installed before mods that need them. (again, vortex will sort out load order, but if a mod installs and can't find the resources it requires, because a dependency hasn't been installed to provide them, it will likely fail during installation with a message like "required resource not found" or something to that affect)
Bradshavius
anjenthedog - thanks for these comments. Also new to Vortex (and modding in general). So here's a follow-up question.... I hear a lot about LOOT and I read I should have that, but if Vortex uses LOOT's load order parameters, do I really need it? (maybe that should be, or has been, it's own thread somewhere, but I couldn't find it). Appreciate any thoughts you have on this!

Hope it's okay to "hijack" this answer... Vortex uses LOOTs data and functionality, just with a different user interface. You'll get exactly the same sorting functionality and also the hints and warnings as with LOOT. If you want those warnings to be displayed next to the plugins, you can check "show LOOT messages inline" or something like that in the settings menu (cog symbol in the top left corner). So no, you don't need LOOT when using Vortex. Vortex' sorting IS LOOT.
