Game running smoothly at half speed (slow motion) | menu stutter | CTD

Hi everyone,

I've searched for others with this problem, but it seems that it can be caused by a variety of problems and I haven't found a real solution.

When I recently got these problems after I had installed a few extra mods, I saw no other option than to go for a clean install. The problem still remains.

On startup you immediately notice that the audio at the Bethesda logo stutters, after that it is noticeable that the menu also performs worse (a bit choppy).

In-game the performance is smooth, yet all animations (game time) seems to run at about half speed. The command 'sgtm 2' fixes this temporarily, but crashes to the desktop occur often.

The problem is that I do no know what might have happened of changed, since the clean install should have taken care of mod issues. I had not changed anything in terms of graphics settings, both in Skryim or in Windows.

I am running the game on an XPS 17 (i7-2630QM, GT 555M, 8GB RAM), but as I said before this is definitely not a performance issue in terms of framedrops. Purely animations or game time....

If anyone has an idea, or direction I can search in, thanks in advance!

A clean install may not have taken care of mod issues unless you manually removed all Skyrim-related files (downloaded mods, savegames, data files, etc) that the steam uninstall leaves behind.

Also, if you opened up an old savegame in a clean install, you may have reintroduced the problem

It may not be your mods or game, it may be hardware. Are you turning off all other resources that might slow down your comp? Browsers, sans, updates, IM, cloud sync, etc?

Try following Bben's blog for a clean reinstall. Run with no mods, new savegame, no changes to your prefs or driver. Does the problem persist? If not then try adding mods one at a time, ini file changes or driver setting changes one at a time, until something causes the problem to recur (if it does) then you will know what the issue is.
