Dragonrend Crashlanding

Dragonrend felt underwhelming for me, the name sounds like a violent spell but instead it just causes Dragons to safely land when they feel like it and i've always liked the Dragon Crash Landing animation they do when their health is low in the air even though it looks funny in some places

so what i'm trying to say is, can anyone make a mod that modifies the Dragonrend shout to make dragons crashland instead of safely landing?

thanks in advance

You'd have to add crash-land areas to each cell though, which is a huge undertaking. Not all of them do. All town cells don't have a crash zone, just landing zones. I was going to make a general overhaul for myself putting random stuff in like extra dragon landing areas on rooftops that are never touched, as well as in the middle of towns (Since Riverwood's ground landing spot is a bit underwhelming.) When I started doing it, I was overwhelmed with how many tweaks I had to do just to get ONE rooftop landing realistically placed like the default Bethesda ones. Also, if you've ever took a peek inside Riverwood's cell, you'd notice that one of the walls to the town only loads when the cell loads (and is invisible to the CK.) I don't know how to enable it within the CK so I can throw a dragon landing on it either, so that was out the door.

Also, it's even HARDER to make an interaction with a part of the world activate with an interaction of another part of the world (dragon crash trigger) that's triggered by an NPC or Enemy. For instance, a dragon crashing into the side of a castle due to dragonrend. Or taking down an entire tower due to it. It's incredibly complex yet all doable.

I wish I knew how to import blender models into the CK to start tinkering with special events like these. I'd end up having a dragon crash into one of the solitude castle bridges, having it come crashing down.

oh, so dragon crash landings uses furniture type markers like dragon landing and dragon roost markers? then i would have to place thousands of crash landing markers for it to work then, i guess i'll just have to settle for the default dragonrend then, anyway thanks for the reply 1+kuds

if you look at a town, you'll see these huge yellow-y transparent dragon forms standing on what appears to be rocks (also yellow, translucent) this is a placement marker. When a dragon checks for the closest area to land, it sees if one of these exists. An animation is then triggered for it to land, as well as noise and earthquake-type shock-wave. These are all injected via that one placement marker. it's really insane how that works though.

Whether or not the dragon crashes into the ground the Dragonrend 'shout' seems to me to be very weak. As soon as you use this shout and actually hit the dragon with it all that happens is that it keeps flying and sometimes flies away so far you don't have the time to chase after it. Also at at times this shout don't seem to work at all when the dragons keep flying away. If this was indeed a more powerful shout then when the dragon is contacted by this shout it should simply fall to the ground quickly. If this results in a crash is irrelevant but at least it is grounded so it can be killed.

Dragons also have that *FACEPLANT* landing, where they start landing normally, but then they crash against the ground.

I am not sure if this needs some sort of special tricks to work.

Anyway, I am interested now.

So is it just one marker you need to place to make the Dragon landing on rooftops work?

If it's just like that, I might consider starting to add some more :D

Dragon crashlandings are usually done at dragon burial mounds (dragon head icons on the world maps) and some towers in mountains. You may want to check those cells (via their cell name) to see what Bethesda did for them.

Agree with this post. Dragonrend shout shout cause the Dragon to faceplant almost immediately. I have done this shout and the dragon keeps flying and sometimes just flies completely out of reach before landing.

I know next to nothing of scripting, but could a crash landing ref be moved directly below the dragon (on the ground), when Dragonrend hits the dragon? With this method, there would be no control over what the dragon crashes into, or the direction of the crash of course. However, if possible it would save time and effort AND compatibility over manually placing crash refs everywhere.

edit: Furthermore, I suppose that the script could be made complex enough to plot a safe (e.g. not into a building, etc.) place for a dragon to crash, is this true?
