LE Removing or changing the skirt on Dawnguard armour

Bit of background, I am using a mod that makes all the different Dawnguard faction armour use the same texture, making it look more like a uniform. The mod can be found here:

I may or may not keep that, it's not really relevant for any reason than to show you what I am talking about.

 

If you look at the images of the various Dawnguard armour options, you'll notice that one of the heavy armours and the sleeveless light armour has a different skirt than the others. In short, I hate it.

 

Now I hear you saying "But Urge, surely you can just fiddle around in Photoshop and replace the padded skirts with the plain cloth skirts." Well, yes. I could and have done that, what is bothering me is the normal map, or rather, the alpha channels. I did try to fix the normal map so my plain, edited skirts wouldn't look padded when they weren't and the result was that the entire armor looked like it was wrapped in foil.

 

In conclusion, my request comes in multiple parts.

 

1. Will someone make the skirts match? The plain cloth skirt looks fine, good even. The padded grayish blue one does not. This would include altering the normal map to not show the padding, without foil-wrapping the entire armour.

 

2. Alternatively, remove the skirts all together. if you look at the light armour variant with a single pauldron. You'll see that the armour looks and works perfectly fine without the extra skirt.

 

3. Tell me how to do either of these things myself. My texturing abilities extend to changing colours pretty much and I know nothing about alpha channels or howw they work. Consider me a texture novice at best. My knowledge of editing meshes in any way is non-existant, if you choose to explain how to remove the skirt alltogether, pretend you're explaining it to a four year old.

 

And that's it, the whole rambling multi part request with the odd attempt at a cheap laugh. I sincerely hope someone at least takes a look at it and considers doing one of the three, I can't possibly be the only person on the Nexus who would want to see this done. if anyone does decide to change the textures or models, I will definitely vote for you if you decide to become president, prime minister or pope.
