Is there a way to add a new crafting material in forge list?

Recommended Posts

hello.

i would like to make a wooden armor set, but to craft that, i think it should be better to add a new material in the forge list.

there's already a WeapMaterialWood but nothing for armors.

i tried to add a kayword ArmorMaterialWood but it doesn't change anything, even after adding the new keywork in the armor material formlist.

i don't think it needs to change the exe, because heartfire add a new category ( building materials) with the keyword BYOHHouseCraftingCategoryBuilding and this one is not available in the CK without the DLC.esm loaded.

any idea?

Unfortunately, the Creation Kit doesn’t allow you to map multiple keywords to a Smithing category in the way that ArmorMaterialIron and WeapMaterialIron are both mapped to the Iron category.

To add your Armor to the Wood category you’ll just have to use the WeapMaterialWood keyword. This doesn’t create the kind of problems that it’s name might suggest; the WeapMaterialWood keyword doesn’t in any way define the object it’s attached to as a weapon, it’s only use in-game is to identify the object it’s attached to for the Wood Smithing category in the forge.

The BYOHHouseCraftingCategoryBuilding category is just a renaming of sGenericCraftKeywordName01 which is in the original game. There are 10 such generic categories and Hearthfire uses 7 of them and reserves 1 more. Of the 2 that are left, what do you think the chances are that upcoming DLC won’t use them?

So my advice is to just use WeapMaterialWood and save yourself a lot of future headaches.

I was so surprised when you said that it doesn’t work, that I had to check. So I loaded the CK and turned one of the other armors into a Wooden one.I used the WeapMaterialWood keyword and the armor turned up on the Wood category.

So I have to ask, what about the armor you’re making doesn’t work?

Maybe I can help.

i'm trying with a craftable version of the wooden dragon mask. Maybe i made something wrong. I'll try again.

but anyway, even if the wood armor works, it's not possible to add new materials :(

Edit: You're right, it didn't work because i have added ArmorMaterialLeather too, so it was in the leather.

but anyway, it's working only for wood armor

I’m glad it worked. :)

Unfortunately the smithing categories are in the game engine, not the CK. So unless Bethesda increase the number of categories later on we’re stuck with what’s there. One option would be to redefine one of the less used categories that’s there already such as Studded (you could move the Studded Armor to the Hide category as that’s what it goes with in an outfit anyway) and use that, but that’s about it.

Anyway, good luck.
