Hionimi
Well, as the topic title and description say: XBox Controller seems to be guilty of making Skyrim crash, I've seen multiple topics stating this in my search, also some minor clues that it has to do with 64-bit systems. But does anyone know if there is a way to fix this? Or at least what causes it. I prefer to return my controller as it was screamingly expensive, or keep it if there is a fix as I strangely like using the controller over keyboard and mouse. But sadly the guy from the store can't take the controller back unless there is solid proof. Edited November 9, 2012 by Hionimi
luthienanarion
Sounds like a load of crap to me. I never play with mouse and keyboard, and have yet to see the game crash outside of testing a bad mesh edit I did once. I also haven't used a 32-bit OS since the Windows 7 beta. If your game is crashing, I highly doubt that XInput is the cause. Edited November 9, 2012 by luthienanarion
Hionimi
Let's keep it civil please... Alright, do you have the older controller that was sold for PC or a XBox controller with separately sold PC receiver, and did you find troubles installing it? Mine would not install from the provided CD, no drivers on Microsoft's website, and Windows Update came up with nothing too. Had to install it using 'Choose Device from List'. Edit: Thing is, I find it hard to believe too that a controller could cause crashes, but when I crashed 3 times in a row on the same point (going through a gate to enter Windhelm), and then finally do not crash when disabling the XBox Controller and going mouse and keyboard... That tends to be rather persuasive... Edited November 9, 2012 by Hionimi
luthienanarion
I wasn't about to endure the headache of using a wireless receiver and batteries, so I bought one of the corded USB ones. It pulls drivers from Windows Update when I first plug it in after installing Windows. You may have something there if you're using one of the wireless ones. You're absolutely right about these things being expensive. I paid $40 at Wal-Mart for mine.
