Hi,

So as the topic says, i have tried everything i can to fix this. This started after I had installed a few new mods after a long break in playing.

Starting a new game works, but i would not like to lose my 180+ hours save.

So here is all the things that i have done, not in any order.

1. Disabling mods one by one

2. Disabling all mods

3. Enabling all mods

4. Reinstalling

5. TES5Edit cleaning

6. Deleting .ini files

7. Correcting the load order

8. Loading older saves

9. Trying different graphics options

+ Some very small things that have worked on other people

If your uGrids is set to 5 in skyrimprefs.ini the increase by this by increments of 2. They should always be odd numbers.

CTDs can occur when the value is lowered, so raise it upto 11 to see if this fixes the problems.

I have no such line as uGrids in my skyrimperfs.ini

Does this matter?

Your problem sounds like one I had once too and I tried the same things. You're not going to like this, but I think your save files for your character may be corrupted and unfortunately there is no way to fix it - not even a clean install with no mods. Loading older saves won't work either. I tried every thing you did and more with no luck. I suggest you make a backup of your save to a file not accessed by Skyrim, then delete the save files accessed by Skyrim. You can put your save files back into My Computer\Libraries\My Documents\My Games\Skyrim\Saves\yoursavefiles.sav (windows 7 path for Skyrim saves) once you have determined whether the save files are corrupted or not. You can do this by following the above steps and having nothing in you Skyrim save directory then try starting the game and choose new game. If Skyrim loads with a new game and no previous saves in the Skyrim save directory then it is very likely that your save files are corrupted and you will have to start again (Very disappointing - I had a character I had nearly a months worth of game play invested in that the save files became corrupt on). If Skyrim still doesn't start and CTDs on load after trying the above steps check your Mods one or more could be corrupt or in conflict. This can also cause a CTD on load. Your save may be ok in this case but still will not load while a corruption or conflict issue remains. Also If you still have problems loading after trying everything else above try a clean install of Skyrim with no Mods and no saves in the Skyrim save directory. This should solve Skyrim's CTD on loading. Afterwards proceed with caution creating a new game and adding mods one at a time, testing them out (playing Skyrim) watching for unexpected CTDs especially on loading. Don't just delete ini files without a clean backup to replace them with. The game needs these files and any .dll, .exe, and other main files to run at all. Also if you disabled your mods, reinstalled, and changed load order while still having your character save in the save file it is very likely to be corrupt and none of those things will work. The first thing Skyrim will see when loading is the corrupted save files and fail to load until they are completely removed from the save directory. Hope this helps and it turns out not to be your save files that are the problem.

Sorry for late reply, difficult to tell mate. Have you ever used a mod that increases the gfx of Skyrim? I had one which increased uGrids value in the ini file without me knowing and then I had to verify the game in steam sometime afterwards, this set it back to the default (no uGrids line and cells=36), my save game would CTD upon loading as result. You can go up uGrids but not back down unless you start new save game adventure.
