xTLx
Is there a way to remove quest items from your inventory? Specifically I am wondering about the menu-items added by mods such as Fallout Wanderers Edition or DK_Bullet Time that allow you to open up a menu that displays options or settings relevant to the mod. I find the items often out of place as well as cluttering in my inventory. It sort of ruins the immersion for me. Is there a way to remove them either with console commands or with the Fallout 3 GECK? Or edit their name or icon at the least?
Gribbleshnibit8
It depends on the mod. Some mods you can just get the ID of the item using FO3Edit or GECK, and then use the console to remove it. Other mods track whether the player has the menu item or not, and will add the item back if you don't. I believe that FWE does this, as the menu is critical in running the mod. To prevent stupidity in users who would drop the thing and then complain about not being able to access the menu, it is made foolproof. Of course, making something foolproof can also tend to make it annoying to the non-fools. In the case of mods like FWE, I would say learn to live with the menu. Since it integrates most of the best menu requiring mods, I find that having the single menu object isn't too bad, though I would prefer it be in the Aid category instead of armor, as menus are aids and not protection. But that's me. For others, you can try removal in console, and if you get the item back, you know it's script given and you'll need to edit the script if you want it truly gone. blove
If you are using a merged patch, you can copy as an override the menu items of your mods to your merged patch and then change the names to ones that suit you better.
Gribbleshnibit8
Oh yeah, I forgot about that method. I find that using a | symbol in place of the usual : works very well. The | sorts to the bottom, not the top, so the top of your inventory doesn't get cluttered with a bunch of menu objects.
