How to catch up in Elder Scrolls lore?

So I've been playing TES games since Oblivion and have put over 400 hours easily into it, and another 400 hours + into Skyrim. I love them both tremendously and the lore of that universe is so fascinating to me. However whenever I read topics and posts about certain aspects of ES history, I find myself baffled and have never even heard of some of the material they are referring to. What should I go about doing to learn most of the lore of TES? If there is a certain site, articles, or anything that can tell me all the information from the beginning to present day that would be awesome!

P.S- I don't want to buy any past ES games like Morrowind or any of the really early ones, so please don't suggest that :P.

There are two good Elder Scrolls wikis. I usually prefer to UESP (Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages) one to the Elder Scrolls Wiki. Also, this is going to sound kind of odd, but read a lot of the historical texts in Oblivion and Skyrim. Many of them deal with the history and lore. I'm pretty sure there are some lore subforums for each of the ES games on here, so you could browse those as well.

And, I know you said you didn't want to, but I simply must recommend Morrowind. To put it simply, it's pretty dang good, and quite beautiful too if you grab the now easier to install MGSO. It occasionally goes on sale at Steam for around $5 for the GOTY edition, so if you can catch it then, it's worth your time to pick up.

They have a lot of generic breakdowns of events, people and the basic information you need to know whats going on.

http://www.imperial-library.info/

That is a more indepth source, containing every primary-source article, in game book or dev-post, and is generally the go-to place if you want to backup an arguement. It also contained all the in-game material, so you can read through everything without hunting the books down in game.

Some bits of information are found in the latter link, though not really explained well, such as the Godhead, CHIM, the duality of Lorkhan/Akatosh... But their great places to start. Checking in on the Bethesda forums is a good place for the more metaphysical (and thus more fun) shenanigans of the TES universe.

I also have to second the unwanted Morrowind recomendation... It really is the best, in terms of sheer creativity (the world was amazing, beautiful and alien and terrifying all at the same time) and the story make it stand out, particularly when compared to oblivion and Skyrim, and more than make up for some of its gameplay issues. But i digress.

Thanks for the suggestion, I looked at the sites and they seem really informative! I'll start my quest for knowledge soon :P Also thanks AnubisRaven for suggestion the two sites as well!

Play the games.

Playing any game earlier than your first ES game is really hard to do. I tried playing Morrowind after both Oblivion and Skyrim and it just failed to click for me.

I too am going to check out those links :)
