Just an idea for a rather large mod, though not sure if it'd be po

Okay so I was playing some Fallout 3 today, and was just thinking about the The Pitt, and it's metal smelting plant. I got to thinking, "Man it'd be cool if you could do something like that in the Wasteland!". Let's say you could choose a location, then put up a small refinery for a cost & then you could hire people or capture slaves to work in the refinery. At first the refinery would only be able to create ammunition, and other small things, and you can upgrade the refinery for a price, which would mean more smelting furnaces, more workers, a bigger building, ect. Now that you have a refinery setup and staffed, you'd need metal to smelt. My original thought was to be able to make a contract with Rivet City for the ability to scrap the broken part of the ship, which would be able to feed your refinery for a long time. For the contract, you could pay for the rights to the metal, or give them an amount of things you create out of your refinery (i.e. ammunition, weapons, ect). You would also need to higher a crew to retrieve the metal from Rivet City, first being a small crew to match the small refinery, and they would bring only a small amount of metal but sufficient for the refinery's size. This could also be upgraded to allow larger crews to bring more metal in for a larger refinery. Now the bow of the ship can't just be an unlimited supply of metal, it would have to be broken down and would eventually be completely dismantled. I was wondering if the mod could reflect this, i.e. after so much time part of the broken bow would be gone, being hauled off to the refinery, and eventually it would all be used up. If it wouldn't be possible to do that, it would be fine. Since the broken bow would eventually run out, you'd also be able to send your crew/crews to scavenge for metal. You see all these cars everywhere, and your crew could break them down and haul them in. Now with this, there would be a risk to your crew being attacked, depending where they were sent.(i.e. deep inside D.C. is a Super Mutant nest, and the raiders are in the wasteland, however at Rivet City they'd be safe) So you could also arm them. This could be done with weapons/ammunition your refinery creates, or with weapons/ammunition you scavenge. Now, when you add up the cost of hiring a crew to work the refinery, a crew to scavenge, and the cost of protecting not only the refinery but also the crews, it could be expensive. That's why it would all have to start off small, and you'd try to keep the crew size balanced with the refinery's capabilities.

Earlier in the idea I said you could contract out to Rivet City for things like weapons, ammunition, and armor in return for rights to the bow of the ship. Another idea is that once your refinery is upgraded to have a larger smelting capacity, you could contract out to other places, like Megaton, and all the other little settlements, and the Brotherhood of Steel. Now if you contract to Megaton to sell them shipments of weapons and ammunition, you would need to get the supplies to Megaton. That in itself would carry risk, and you'd need to protect these caravans, so you could hire a crew to protect them, or arm the actual caravans. Now let's say you contract out to the Brotherhood of Steel once your refinery has reached the capability to smelt and create power armor. This way you could enter a contract to supply the BoS with weapons and power armor for caps, or maybe in exchange for their protection for your crews.

So just a summary of some of the highlights:

Smelting & crew capacity would start out small, then be upgraded to be larger.

You can choose a place for your refinery. Being in the city limits would be dangerous, but closer to metal sources, and the opposite for being in the wasteland.

You could ether hire people to work in the refinery, or buy/capture slaves. Slaves would be cheaper but would give you bad karma and will result in some people not doing business with you.

Once you have the smelting & crew capacity large enough, you could enter contracts with other cities & organizations to trade with them.

There would be a risk to your crews in the field, and so you could arm your crews to protect themselves.

This is meant to be a mod where you can make caps, so it you would need to make sure the refinery makes more money than what you spend on crews.

Thanks for reading all that, and like I said I'm not even sure it would be possible to do, and if it was it would be a rather large undertaking. Just thought it would be a cool mod that would add quite a bit of playtime to the game. If you guys have any questions or ideas please feel free to post them!
