sa547
Good afternoon, guys. I just got an idea that's been floating around since I began playing around with sword mods, and yet something's missing. Has anyone seen the so-called "Weapons of Moroland" plaques that featured unusual swords and sabers from the island of Mindanao (in the southern Philippines)? I'll show you some examples: http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d135/soulassassin547/th_2010_Moroland.jpgThe plaque depicting the different variety of weapons from the region (credit http://www.sageartsstudio.com). http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m167/item_duper/sultanate%20of%20sulu/th_SwordLink.jpgThis pic was taken in the early 1900s, during the American period as US troops tried to pacify parts of Mindanao, including the Sultanate of Sulu. Of the weapons on the plaque, my favorite has to be the kris, due to its wavy design and razor-sharp blade; this weapon was very common through Islamic regions of Southeast Asia. Another impressive weapon was the kampilan, which was sometimes crafted with more expensive materials but still an effective blade. Some other weapons require two hands due to their weight, and some are capable of cutting the neck cleanly. I hope weapon modders could look into this idea and create reproductions of these exotic weapons. :) Further references:http://www.arscives.com/historysteel/philippines.introduction.htmhttp://www.arscives.com/historysteel/philippines.swords.htm (designs) Edited November 10, 2012 by sa547
