DatDudeDB
In the bethesda gamejam clip there was a clip of bethesda showing off seasonal foliage for the world of skyrim. The skyrim modding community is awesome, and really create great things overall that truly enhance the game. That said, one feature that I REALLY want to see before I'm done with skyrim is to see a season cycle. It would add so much more atmosphere and immersion to the world of skyrim....With all that said, why haven't the modding community made a season changing cycle mod? To difficult to do? slainia
that would be pretty script-heavy i think. also, it's only been out a year... lol. if you're even thinking about being done with skyrim...hehehe.
AnkhAscendant
Not only script heavy but labor intensive... You'd have to have four completely different versions of every exterior in the game. Don't get me wrong, I want seasonal foliage so badly, but I don't think it's some simple thing that should be expected of the modding community. slainia
l was wondering about that. For some of it at least - the winter/fall one variations? - there are some tree types that're used in both weather type areas of skyrim.wouldn't really matter though, l think it's something beyond what the community can do right now. Oubliette
Meh, it was in the game jam - Bethesda might release it as a DLC.
Lachdonin
Meh, it was in the game jam - Bethesda might release it as a DLC. As single, isolated example was in the Gamejam, at a highly accelerated speed, likely using the in-place weather system more than anything else. In order to actually implement seasons, the weather system would have to be overhauled to be affected by the actual date (in game), first. IE; Snow in Frostfall, rain in Second Seed. Then you would need either multipul models for the flora, depicting different seasons, or (even worse) a gradual annimation for said flora for seasonal change. Theres also the pelt changes for wildlife, the acclulation of snow, the thinning/regrowth of scrub (of which there is plenty in the game). Seasons would be tough. Sounds amazing though. @_@ I would be happy with just four distinct versions of flora, depending on the season - the month changes and suddenly the green trees are now yellow. I would be so much happier with what you described though.
imperistan
Well, difficulty is no reason not to do something. However, with Seasons already showing up on Beth's side of things, most modders I imagine probably won't bother with Seasons because there'd be little point if Beth puts out their own version. Wasted effort and all that. When Beth stops developing for Skyrim however, presuming they haven't released it, I could see modders taking on the challenge. DatDudeDB
I really hope some mod team, or modder decides to indeed take on the mammoth task. It's just an aspect that seems "do-able" to a certain degree, but would take quite a bit of effort to accomplish. It's definitely a mod though that will HIGHLY create more immersion. I know aplestormy (the creator of the enhanced town and villages mods) is working on a winter version of whiterun: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=102323061 Surely this can be expanded, no? Triaxx2
Several reasons. For one, it's difficult to do yes. It requires reworking all the trees to have shedding leaves built into their models with all the animation that entails. And without access to the animation tools and resources Bethesda has. For another it's ultimately a cosmetic mod, with little effect on game play, because it's already easy enough to see through them leaves or no. Finally it's a major resource hog, so unless you've got a pretty powerful computer.
