FMod
It should also be noted that creating or distributing ANY tool designed to bypass copy protection, which a diff patcher would be, is also a direct violation of the DMCA and thus illegal in the US.But only a tool bypassing copy protection. (Not a patcher, BTW, rather the diff). While on the subject of copyrights, I think a question has been raised once in regards to distributing defaultgamecore.ini itself and other ini files, as done by mods now. The answer to that is it's perfectly legal - configuration files are not subject to copyright. Whether original or modified, a configuration file is not artistic expression of an idea, and ideas themselves are not copyrightable (some ideas are patentable, that's it). This doesn't apply to int files, though, these are copyrightable, because of the text descriptions inside, although it can be considered fair use. As long as the copyright holder doesn't mind, it doesn't matter though; this is a civil matter only.Context diffs for these files would fall cleanly under fair use protection.
