Specific Sound Effects not working

Hey everybody. I recently ran into some problems getting specific sounds to play correctly.

Chief among these problems are voices in dialogue. Out-of-dialogue voice clips work just fine, as well as the voices in dialogue that came with some of the higher quality mods I have installed, like Willow or New Vegas Bounties. However, dialogue voice overs are completely silent. Characters' lips move correctly, but there is no sound.

In addition, various Pip-boy sound effects relating to menus don't work. The small click when you mouse over items, the bloop when you change tabs, and the use/repair sound effects when using items all are nonfunctional. The sound effect for stealth criticals works, but the beeps and clicks while using VATS are silent. The main menu's clicks and beeps work perfectly, but in game my pip-boy sfx and pause menu sfx are silent.

I haven't played the game in a month or two, which worked just fine back then if I recall correctly. The only mod I installed since then has been FNV Project Reality (link: http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/42180 for your ease of reference). I've uninstalled then checked, then reinstalled again and checked again all with no luck, my sounds just won't work like they're supposed to. Steam cache verification didn't work either.

As an FYI, I have only used NMM to install mods, as I am far too nervous to go mucking around in the files menus without very specific instructions: hence, I'm coming this wonderful community for guidance =)

Any help or insight to this situation would be GREATLY appreciated; if not, that's OK too, I can live without my menu clicks (though I really do enjoy hearing voices)

Fixed it!

I found I was having the same problem in skyrim, and the tips suggested in those forums yielded results. I'm posting for posterity's sake, in case a future FNV player runs into the same problem and runs a search on these forums. The internet is forever after all :D

If for whatever reason this link ceases to work: I opened up my Realtek HD Audio Manager (which seems to have been the culprit), set my speakers to a 5.1 setting but disabled the center speaker, subwoofer and rear pair speakers while keeping surround checked. I won't get the dynamic sound adjustments in other games, but I will still have sound coming out of all 6 speakers. Good luck to anybody else who has the same problem!
