tandydandy
First things first: Vista64Athlon 64 x2 42002Gb RamGeForce 8600GT (slightly overclocking made a HUGE difference)M-Audio firewire external I/O TL;DR Fallout 3 does NOT crash when I keep the Pip-boy's radio tuned to a station with reception. Results may vary of course. First of all, I haven't experienced the exception or BSOD crashes. Mine are usually either a hard crash that simply kicks me to the desktop, or an "input glitch" of sorts; just before it crashes, it runs all poopy and then, suddenly, 60fps goodness. Thats when it stops responding to input, and I simply continue moving in whatever direction it left off at. I've tried waiting for it to respond, but its just dead, no keyboard and mouse after that. No programs have problems after this, as if it weren't already clearly Fallout. I noticed the music thing when I downloaded the lovely addon pack by Renira and started listening to the music alot while in the eastern side of the map. I was playing for hours before I realized how much time had passed, and without crashing. When I traveled back to the northwest corner and the radio cut out, it started running intolerably. I also noticed that the in-game "ambient" soundtrack (score, I guess one would call it) hadn't started on its own. It crashed. Continued from the save again, with the radio still off, and it was again super choppy, but ran like the wind when I entered battle, and the battle music started. It was beautiful. Crashed as soon as combat ended, even before I could quicksave. So, I ticked onto that damn Enclave radio and it hasn't crashed since. It doesn't have to be Enclave radio, but in the far western parts its all that will come in. I do have some addons, but the only factors I would imagine are relevant would be Renira's extra music and that I put some of my own mp3s in for the battle music. Can't guarantee this would work for anybody else, I have a rather strange setup with the external sound card and all, but I thought I would document this nonetheless. I had every bit the same level of problems with the game before this as everyone else mentions, with it running perfectly for a few hours SOMETIMES, and sometimes its hard to go for more than a few minutes without some kind of crash. Now, its running beautifully, and has been for a few days.Hope this helps!
JAD2008
I used to have the ''unknown software exception'' till I restored my computer, but now, I have the same type of crash as you: I'm playing and sometimes the game just kick me to desktop and close itself. How exactly you say that I can fix this? :thanks:
