Idea - Mind Rip

There was a mod for Morrowind called Scripted spells, which had one spell, called mind-rip, that when cast, showed you all the spells the enemy had (in the spell merchant menu, except they were all free) and let you pick one and learn it, if Mind Rip worked

I've been looking for a mod to do this in Oblivion, but haven't found one.

Would any modders out there be willing to make a mod (OBSE would probably be required) that adds a spell allows the player to learn spells from their enemies?

Muhahaha! :devil: Sounds like an excellent spell for Darkness Unleashed (an upcoming Necro/Shadowknight spell pack). But, instead of just learning it, you get a chance to actually steal the spell from the enemy. :thumbsup:

How about a mind crush spell as well that gives the opponent silence and does magicka damage and a mind freeze spell that does paralysis and frost damage.

Those spells can be created easily enough with the spellmaking altar in-game. A spell like mind-rip, however, would be a totally new effect, and require a mod. After replaying scripted spells, I noted that there are two spells this would encompass. First is a Mind Scan, with comes in a passive form which is usually less successful than the active form but non-hostile. Then active scan, which almost always works but is considered hostile. Active and Passive Scans let you see what spells the enemy knows, nothing else.

Then, there is Mind-Rip, which is hostile (and a crime?) and lets you actually learn those spells.

These spells should likely be mysticism, and be journeyman level for the scans, and expert for Mind rip. Or possible Apprentice for active scan and journeyman for passive scan - as your character gains more skill with mysticism, he learns to be more subtle in probing the minds of others.

And, taking the same idea, maybe there should be a Master level mind rip that is nonhostile?

 

Can anyone out there do this? I fail at scripting, and something like this seems far too complicated for me. The idea seems to have gotten a generally positive response, and I know I would be grateful, and I believe the rest of the community would be as well.

 

EDIT: Also, some sort of skill and luck based check should be used to determine if the target's mind is damaged to the extent that you can no longer rip spells from it - I remember something similar from the Morrowind version. A decently skilled character should be able to get about three spells from an opponent before failure, imo. Or maybe make it a check of your willpower+ mysticism + luck vs their same stats, to represent them putting up mental defenses, instead. Of course, if you make this mod, it's yours to do with as you like..I just want to see this ability in some form.
