taking damage from your own spells and scrolls

Hello to all,

 

I've been using a lot of the mods from this community and so far when I thought of something in the game that needed changing (to my taste) I would always find the right mod for me. But this time I can't seem to find if it exists or if there is another way (like a console command) to do what I'd like to.

 

The problem is I think it's pretty silly that a mage gets damaged by his own spells and by the scrolls that he uses. I've only just now noticed it when using a blizzard scroll that it kills me almost as soon as I cast it. Is there a mod out there that prevents this from happening?

Hasn't happened to me before, tho I don't really use blizzard. What other AoE spells are there which affect the player? I haven't heard of such a mod and don't know off-hand a way to grant immunity to the single spell...after it's cast it's simply AoE damage to everything in the area...not really an easy way to separate the player's Blizzard damage from other cold damage, for example.

 

You could try enchanting two items in-game with protection from frost. It's the game's way of balancing out the power of Blizzard...risk vs. reward and all that. I want to say that if doing something again and again keeps killing you, it's probably best to stop doing it, but am not sure if that's polite.

 

A quick search on Nexus shows two mods for "friendly fire" but they don't seem to affect the player.

After some more searching I kind of fixed it.

Apparantly its just the blizzard spell that seems to damage the player when cast. I installed the alternative blizzard spell mod and that works when using the spell from the spell book. The scrolls I had now seem to be broken though, when I use them I see a bit of snow but no blizzard, people get knocked of their feet but don't seem to take damage (the player does'nt either). Maybe it's just the scrolls I had in my inverntory before installing the mod, I'll test it out on a new scroll, maybe those do work, who know's. Anyway I'm at least glad it works when I learn the spell so I don't spend time creating a frost mage only to end up with a master spell that just kills my character when cast ( I tested it by learning all spells via the console and using godmode because my character did'nt have enough mana).

Frost and fire are both good picks i dont care for lightning because you turn enemys to ash and ruin the loot ;(

Ok I think I managed to alter the alternative blissard esp so it works for scrolls as well. I messed around with it quite a bit befor getting it so I'm not entirely sure what I did but I think it was because the scroll asked for an effect on self and the mod changed blizzard to an aimed effect. Anyhow I'm no expert by any means, I'm just happy it now works like I wanted it to. Thanks tot the mod creator and the person who replied for pointing me in the right direction.
