About

Ever since I finished Skyrim, especially after experiencing Blackreach, I've had the idea of somehow incorporating the fantastic world and lore of the Dark Elves (or as fans know them, drow) from R.A Salvatore's Forgotten Realms novels (especially The Dark Elf Trilogy), into the beautiful world of Skyrim, with some kind of mod. Fans of the series reading this might know what I mean, and probably can relate to my yearning for such a wonderful addition to the game.

I've searched and searched, but nowhere have I found a good mod that does more than simply tip its hat to the novels (I have seen some Drizzt character models/hairstyles and actually some really great Drow armour mods but nothing more ambitious).

If you're a modder and like the sound of this, pay attention and read on, read my idea for a Drow mod, I wrote it out as a scripted quest-type event.

One of R.A Salvatore's great novels, and my favourite fantasy novel.

Ideas

Since I lack some of the astounding modding skill I've witnessed on this site, required to make the mod I desire, with the high calibre quality it needs, I turn to you, modders and fans of the series, to approve or disapprove and discuss some of the following ideas I've proposed, so that they may spark some interest and eventually channel into creating a great mod that the Forgotten Realms series deserves.

Here is a general guide through what a player might experience after installing my idea of a perfect Drow mod:

Yanxtar's Ideal Drow Mod:

· In a large open grassland, not too far from mountainous terrain, the player encounters a small camp of a few tents and a camp-fire, and the horrific scene of 8 murdered High Elves, some of which are children (this will require a High Elf children mod, there is already a Khajiit children mod out, so I can't imagine this being impossible).

·After looking round (looting), the player picks up a mysterious note (quest item) that looks like this

·A quest is started to investigate the situation around the dead bodies, and find the meaning of the mysterious note (Optional: a quest marker is added to make it easier for the player)

·The player stumbles upon a nearby cave digging into a mountainside cliff. The cave is quite small, about 5 metres deep, and at the end of it, there appears to be a tiny, out of place crack, the portal to a dungeon (at this point the player has exited Skyrim and entered a new, player-made level/dungeon).

·The quest has progressed, describing that something strange happened, and since there's no going back the way you came, the only thing left to do is to progress.

·The player spawns in a very dark tunnel, and as he progresses it gets darker and darker until eventually it becomes pitch black (player must make use of magic or torch to distinguish his surroundings).

·The player encounters some simple creature enemies on the way (spiders, trolls) and eventually, after long last, ends up in a gigantic cavern (I'm talking Blackreach massive, it's Blackreach which inspired me to think up this idea for a mod), with massive cavernous buildings (as described in the books), huge population of Drow/Dark elves etc.

·The player has discovered Menzoberranzan, City of Intrigue.

===

Here the potential is endless. Depending on the scale of things, this could be epic and as grand scaled as a full on expansion (quests, custom voice-overs, cities, NPC instances, scripted events etc.) or it could end up as a dead-simple (emphasis on dead) hack-and-slash experience where the player simply kills all the dark elves, with a few interesting bosses here and there, with cool referrences to the books with names/weapons/armour sets etc.

My only wish is that the person who takes up the challenge to create this epic experience, excels and does the books justice.

In my opinion, this mod definitely requires that all the Drow NPCs must have their own custom armour and weapon sets, and if creatures are used, these should be custom and up to speed with the books too.

Being true to the books is essential, as well as making sure that, regardless of the scale, this mod should be top notch quality and not look cheap.

Mods that I think will be essential to pull this off

·Drow armour set (Nightingale-styled armour like this already made beautiful mod over here)

·Drow weapon set (This includes Bows, Scimitar-blades, exotic daggers etc.)

·NPC Drow race* (*For NPCs not playable for player. This could be a simple re-texture of the vanilla Dark Elf, exclusive to the NPCs found in Menzoberranzan)

·Panther creature add-on (It would be a nice ode to Guenhwyvar to see a magical panther somewhere, a well-made retexture of the vanilla sabre cat could already do the trick)

·Exclusive Drow Powers (Drow possess magical power to conjure up illusive flames and spheres of shadow - these ideas can be played around with depending on the mod)

This has been my pitch for the idea of (what I think is) a great Drow Mod. Thank you for your time, tell me what you think!

I like this. I was reading about a planned forgotten realms mod some time ago, way back in 2011, which seems to have died.

I'm personally working on spell overhauls based on forgotten realms systems;

I've completed something around 20 or so. The focus is on druid and mage spells, so i've got things working like hold person, web, flare, summon natures allies I,II, and III, summon monsters I, II, and III respectively. Then there are some others like scorching ray, insect swarm, gust of wind..yah.

So maybe, if I end up working up a great great deal of ambition, I can get about to tackling some Forgotten realms stuff, but that isn't going to be for a bit.

Edit: Changed my mind. Think I'll start fiddling around to see what I can put together. Menzoberranzan looks like a pretty excellent spot.
