Random black polygons on custom armor

I've put together a custom armor model and some parts of the model have these weird black polygons appearing on them:

I just cannot figure out what's causing this, I've tried messing around with smoothing groups, made sure the normals aren't flipped or something, all the textures seem fine but I just can't get rid of those.

I'm using 3ds max if that matters.

Sometimes I find that happens when a mesh has double verts AND your using a NiStencilProperty (double sided), to fix it either remove the double vertices or remove the NiStencilProperty.

I had a NiStencilProperty on at one point, but I removed it while trying to fix it and it didn't seem to change anything. And there aren't any double sided polygons, at least not on the spots that are black.

Then its the normals are indeed flipped, that tends to be the only reason they show up black other then what I posted before. I do not use Max so I am sorry to say I know nothing about how to go about working on fixing such issues.
