PlaneSpaceWalker
I altered my little .ini file, unpacked the textures/meshes BSA files and tossed in the stuff I wanted modded into said folders. I fire up my game and none of those textures seem to have been changed though. Is this what the archive invalidation is all about?
gandalftw
Yep,the texture files need the paths typed into the Archiveinvalidation.txt file to appear in-gameExample:textures/characters/female/headhuman.dds same thing with meshes.
PlaneSpaceWalker
Thanks a million. Unfortunately while trying to figure this crap out, I copied my textures.BSA, deleted the one in the data folder (thinking that if it would load the stuff in the unpacked textures folder, instead of the archive), tried firing up the game and naturally, had no textures. Upon replacing the BSA (that I copied), the game still loads up consistently as if it doesn't have textures. I think a reinstall is in order but if there's a quick fix that could avoid the hassle, I'd appreciate it. No biggie though, seems like a simple screw up. PlaneSpaceWalker
From what I could see, everything was pretty much green/black and white, and there were lots of "404 texture missing" texts all over the few images I could make out. I loaded a save (lots of trial and error, as there was no texture for the arrow) and everything was bright pink and then it crashed instantly. Pretty trippy. My current problem is that I had a buddy copy his installed, vanilla version in iso form onto an external harddrive, and I fired that up. Problem is, while the complete game is very much on my computer and runs fine, if I run the launcher it acts like the game needs to be installed (and I don't have a hard disk, so I can't go through that process.) Is there any way to toggle .esps and load loose files in this situation? An interesting series of adventures to say the least, but man, gotta do somethin while I'm waiting for my hardcopy to come back here.
PlaneSpaceWalker
Alright so, all that garbage aside the game is installed and I'm trying to mod it. So far all my .esps have worked fine, but texture overrides are falling flat. The new items (the deagle mod for one) are in the game just fine, but textures simply won't load. I'm getting that big red exclamation point, and in the case of the darker enclave armor I'm just not seeing a texture change. My archive invalidation is in the main fallout 3 folder (I tried it in Data too) I clicked "Load loose files" from the launcher, as well as all the .esps I wanted (I've tried not clicking load loose files too, no change.), unpacked textures (the only thing the mods I currently have affect) overwrote the files in the texture folder, changed my fallout_default.ini, and I'm still not seeing my new textures in the game. The only "problem" could be that I'm using an unmodded save (actually a mod from a previous install) to check the files. If this could be affecting it, ok, I'm making a new game right now, spawning the modded junk in my inventory to see if there's a change. More in a minute. PlaneSpaceWalker
Alright, making a new game didn't help either back to square one. If there's a problem with my procedure so far, I'm not seein' it. Could be vista? Like I said, everything is in, but the altered textures just aren't working, it's still using the "old" textures for any vanilla items, despite their presence in the archive invalidation text and my change to the ini. Lame.
gandalftw
The Fallout.ini file you need to change is in:Documents/my games/Fallout 3/Fallout.ini Same place as the save files. The game uses that one not the default one. That should do it. Smosh
Were there any new textures added to the game, ones that didn't override existing ones? Did you add all the textures paths (of the mod) to the Archiveinvalidation.txt? Can you point us to the mod you are trying to get to work?
PlaneSpaceWalker
Ok I think that makes sense. I've been editing the fallout_default, I can't find my save files anywhere (I believe on Vista they're hidden by default). I'm gonna try that. And Smosh, yeah my ArchiveInvalidation is legit, and no, not so far. If by "new" textures you mean a texture for a new mesh, that is. I'm trying to get the darker enclave power armor mod to work. http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=479 Imma try what Gandalf recommended real quick, more in a moment. Edit: Can't find my save games anywhere, I'm kind of a computer slap though. Workin' on it. Edit: Bingo, I found the "real" ini in my documents, binvalidateolderfiles=1, everything works. Thanks a bunch for helpin me out!
