Player Homes

I do not know how to mod player homes, or how to use the creation kit to do so, so I was there for wondering, if is was safe to, when customising your player home, is it safe to delete static or active items and objects that you do not want within the house.

Cheers

I have deleted and moved and added items to player homes with few problems. (for instance, I copied a butter churn from one waterview player home and added it to a hearthfire home (Lakeview manor) ...Moved it to where I wanted it and it stayed there...And it works as a butter churn.)

The one exception I've found is bookshelves, which for whatever reason cannot be placed "entotal" (you get a shelf but no control)

I wouldn't say you can delete "any" object" but most. (for instance, I'm not sure what might happen if you accidentally deleted a floor or wall). Manequins are another I haven't had much success with.

Also, there are probably autospawn items that will re-add themselves periodically, although I haven't paid attention

Hi, thanks for the response, and for taking the time to do so. I have copied things from other houses as well to use in my home, without any real issues, but is it safe to deleted things out of a house. For example, I use a Breezehome mod, and then like to take out all the static items I do not like, or require, and then replace them with collectables I find along the path of my game. I have been getting a weird thing of late, with all my saved game images turning to a corrupted file, and unable to load them, and all the books I pick up are blank. This error also stops the option with all NPC's of either starting a quest, or to the simple what have you got for sale showing. I was there for wondering if this error is due to the fact I deleted things and items from my house and change it all around.

I'm sorry but I can't help you with your corrupted resources. You posted another thread about that issue and I didn't answer it because I can't help you there. Never seen that myself.

In addition, I have never tried to rewrite an entire player home mod by swapping out huge numbers of mod resources manually, I just added, removed, and moved a few things... I would think one might have to use ssedit or something to accomplish what you are attempting to do correctly, perhaps even rebuilding the mod to accomplish it without causing issues or corruption. I reall ydon't know that level of mod modding.

I suppose you could try uninstalling the player home(s) that you modified to see if that solves your issue, but honestly I don't know.

Its all good, I just put this out there to see if any one had any thoughts and ideas on if it was safe to do so or not, but its all good. I love Skyrim, take me back to one of my most loved and favourite games of old, being the Ultima series of games. They are what got me into gaming in the first place, and Skyrim just reminds me so much of them, with the added fact of being so much better in so many ways. I like to collect things through the game, and show armour on mannequins and swords and other weapons, and if I know how to use to creation kit and how to mod, I would do so. But alas, I do not, but that's cool. I did throw out a challenge to all modders to build one for me, but it has yet to be taken up lol not that mind if no one does, as its a huge ask from my point, but you never know if one does not ask.

Bookshelves and mannequins wont qork because you are simply altering the shelf and nit the activators

Yeah...so I learned. They're not compartmentalized for whatever reason. On the other hand, there are activatable items (like the butter urn for Leanne's Waterview player home), that are self-contained. seems a bit odd to me, but whatever.

For the OP, some things in player homes tend to keep coming back, even after you've deleted them out of the CK. Your best bet is to copy a large piece of floor into the interior cell, but outside of the actual home, then drag the items to it. Hover them about an inch over the floor then havoc settle them, so they don't bounce all over the place. Then the home still registers them as being there, so they don't replace themselves and knock all the things off your newly-decorated shelves. This isn't true for all things in player homes, mostly clutter, but my experiences have taught me that, when in doubt, it's better to drag it outside than delete it. Hope that helps.

Its because bookshelves have alot of activators and reference markers, every book has an individual marker to tell the game where to spawn them when the player activates it. So youd be moving everything attacked to the shelf, which isnt possible.

Ive never used the mod, but if the butter churn is simply an activator that opens a menu then its self contained with no external reference markers.
