The main idea is great, but there's one problem with Moira:

What if you blow Megaton up?

Her shop's gone. You can't buy.

Hmmm..

Flak is part of a quest as well.. which takes him away.

I dunno. A wasteland shopping center is maybe really the best way to go.

We need one BASIC mod, which adds the center, and some vendors there, which are PERMANENT, and UNAFFECTED by quests. On this basic mod, single modders can add crates to the vendors that have their shops there.

Yes, that could work out.

since we get a cs soon i think this thread is outdated... just create your own loot lists and dont overwrite exisitng ones and all will be fine i think... tho id like a communal shopping center i guess most will just make their own shop anyway

I would agree. Though you know what would be even better is to create a new NPC Merchant that shows up at random outside megaton and other places. This way the NPC merchant could be independent of the cell generation as well. If modding communities adopted this standard with the kind of mod conflict TES and FO3 have then it could relieve a lot of frustration, I think.

ed:

The NPC could be random or chosen for the community via contest. Or you could even have randomly generated NPC's with only the use of imported, or modified models. We can already create new items with new ID's so maybe some clever person who's been modding from TES can figure that out in the present. I like the idea of having a merchant network provided by a community. So when you talk to the merchant they may say welcome to the Nexus Guild Merchants Wander Chain of Goods and Services. Then whatever would show up based on whatever variables the player would be presented with IE: maybe only merchants with certain wares from the Nexus will only give you stuff based on your karma, or speech maybe even.

sorry for me to barge in ...

and i may be completely beside the point, but anyhow:

i run (among others) the FN-FAL.esp and the vashDeaglesV4.esp, which both add a unique ammo-type (as for how exactly i don´t know ^^) but i changed neither in terms of ammo (only damage). And, att least at chief gustavo´ shop, i can buy both kinds of ammo from him.

Basically both .esps add different things to the same shopkeeper simultaneously ...

I thought something like that wasn´t possible in Oblivion, maybe if this works gernerally, there´s one less thing to worry about?

well most shopkeepers use more than one levelled list and thus offer the ability to modify more than one... its like oblivion just that in oblivion most modders put the items in vendor chests instead of lists... sadly these lists are used by more than one npc most of the time and thus dont offer a multitude of possibilities... additional to these lists one can create a new one but i think only one as the other mods adding one list to that merchant would overwrite the npc with the new list prolly

Once the G.E.C.K. comes out I think the merchant issues will disappear. The big issue I think will be the Loot lists, How could I add a gun to raiders weapon list if someone else does? Will we only be able to get custom weapons from merchants? Other NPCs in the game should have custom weapons. How could you avoid conflicts?

I've seen random products appear at different shops, esp junk shops and misc or general purpose shops, like Moira's. Can't new items be added into a random mix that may show up at a variety of shops? Might be interesting to find it up for barter at some random scavenger. Couldn't the lists be merged for compatibility?

You could write a loot list with your mods and add it to vendor inventories but you would have to update it yourself since it will not be portable, it will also require you modify the mods you download so they dont overwrite vendor inventories. you can do somethign similar and add the mod weapons to npc's as well.

I tihnk the best way for you yo go is keep an ESP file that you use and copy the mods you want into it with fo3edit, add the level lists you want for random shop inventory and npc spawns. im not sure how to create a whole new merchant though.
