A Creation Kit question nobody can answer.

You can't.

There I answered it. Catchy title.

No, seriously, from what I understand a lot of people want custom crafting categories (alliteration ftw!) for their mods, but it's impossible because it's hard coded in the game engine.

Edit: Interessting read, LukeH. So categories can be renamed, but you can't add new ones. That might result in conflicting mods... :/

Try this: http://www.creationkit.com/Customizing_Crafting_Categories

I never tryed so can't help more then pointing you to it.

But also I believe that's a mod out here somewhere, can't remember it's name, that provides support for a number of additional predefined categories, and if I remember correctly, it claims the flash interface needed to be changed in order to support that...but i might be mistaken.

Yeah I believe this one, or some other of of the same author. Yet I don't know were I got the idea that flash was edited.

Well, reading again it seems that adding new categories is still impossible, you just play with the number beth gave you.

If I'd need such thing i'd go with that mod's choices if possible to reduce chance for incompatibility between mods, yet incompatibilities with future official dlcs are most likely to happen.

PS: same person seems to have wrote the wiki page.

@LukeH: probably from me, lol. In theory it might be possible to add new categories using SKSE and hacking the Skyrim interface files (which are Flash files).

See this thread.

And this thread.
