changing NPC propeties

I have the TES editor, and I want to make a handful of NPC's from the 5 CM cute elves mod be non-essential.

I've tried opening it up, hitting data, checking the oblivion.esm, cm partners.esp, cm partners.esm, and davaliera.esp, loading the list checking NPC's and then finding the CM elves( check da run onnn) . I unchecked the essential box on 3/5 of them and hit save, thats where it tells me that the Davalerya mod is in use/master file so I can't save it to that folder. So I randomly save it as a separate plugin. I start up oblivion and the npc's are still essential. I tried de-activating the default mod for it, figuring mine would override it, but nope they just dissapeared.

 

 

I would reallllllly like this help

You need to make the '5 Cute Elves .esp' (whatever it's called) active. Just highlight it and click the 'set as active' button. Make your changes and save. Do keep a back-up copy somewhere. Enjoy :biggrin:

ah I see, I didn't make the file active.

EDIT: OK I did what you guys said, which is make that the active file. I unchecked the essential box & hit ok, then saved.

I try it in game, and they still only go unconscious. I tried making only certain ones non-essential & then all of them non-essential; same deal. I brought 1 into oblivion and dropped her into lava, her body kept going unconscious..

 

the esp. file says they're non-essential though, am I missing something?

 

edit 2: I've also tried unchecking the "quest item" box, nothing.

I don't personally know the mod you are trying to alter, could be a zillion things. First thing I'd check is that they don't have a personal script, or a remote catch all script, keeping them from perishing.

Meanwhile, hopefully someone who uses this mod will come to your rescue. Companions are a pig to get working, why try and change that .. LOL

 

NB.. I'm assuming your little alteration is later in the load order than the original .esp :biggrin:
