Deleted919650User
We're starting to see a few nice new guns coming out, which is just fantastic! We're expanding our armories, and making the Capitol Wasteland a more diverse (and dangerous) place! I'm digging it, really. Now that you guys have finally figured out how to add new models and weapons into the game, I have to seriously request something seriously cool. And seriously possible, too. Can't forget that. Point is, we're forced to be entirely too gun-reliant in Fallout 3 due to the very limited arsenal of melee weaponry in the game. It's all bland, uninteresting, and without any variety! This is a post-apocalyptic wasteland with unlimited scrap and crap to salvage and fiddle with! Can we please see some more improvised melee weaponry? For example, the Shishkebab. Kind of a cool weapon, but way fancier than what I want! It's a high-tech flaming sword! Screw the fire, I don't want the fire! I want what's underneath it! A lawnmower blade welded onto a motorcycle handgrip? Brutal! These are the kinds of weapons I want to see more of! Absolutely brutal looking weapons crafted together from everyday objects! The best thing about these is how simple you can be with them! A lead pipe with a butcher knife welded onto the end horizontally, making a dagger-pick type of weapon! A baseball bat with a lawnmower blade wedged into it! A fire axe! How is there no fire axe?! More! We need more! These weapons are all so simple when compared to all the little details that need to go into making models of firearms, so why haven't you cats at least put a couple out, eh? Luckily we already have animations for almost every type of blunt weapon. Heavy two-handed weaponsSmall one-handed weaponsSword-like weaponsOne-handed midsized blunt weapons It's all there! So please, I say PLEASE, somebody get crackin' on these! It's so easy to ignore the posts in the request forum, I know! But these types of weaponry would vastly increase the gaming experience, the immersion factor, and the baddasseriness of the Fallout 3 universe. To help lubricate the gears of modding, here's a list of possible starting weapons. I'm trying to keep all of these ideas focused around weapons with similar animations. Mom's Homemade Weapon List- Now with Concept Art! Dagger PickThe Dagger Pick is a one-handed bladed weapon constructed simply out of a railroad spike welded horizontally onto the end a lead pipe. It's a simple, yet brutally effective weapon. Possible animation base: Tire Iron / Lead Pipe http://usera.ImageCave.com/ZFS_Cartographer/Screenshots/Dagger-Pick.jpg ChopperConstructed from a lawnmower blade welded to a motorcycle handguard, or some other similar item, the Chopper is a violent, intimidating bladed weapon. Possible animation base: Chinese Officer's Sword / Shishkebab http://usera.ImageCave.com/ZFS_Cartographer/Screenshots/Lawnmower-Chopper.jpg Broken Branch CutterA simple, effective, and readily available weapon is the Broken Broken Branch, which is exactly what it sounds like. The bolt seperating the two axe-like (or sword-like, if you choose to go with a hedge trimmer) halves of the branch cutter is broken or removed, leaving a sharp and sturdy tip that's sure to cause some damage.Possible animation base: Chinese Officer's Sword / Lead Pipe / Etc http://usera.ImageCave.com/ZFS_Cartographer/Screenshots/Branch-Cutter.jpg DaggerfistAn "unarmed" weapon designed to stab the enemy with every punch, the dagger fist is simply two knives welded side-by side onto an arm brace, with a metal knuckle guard (brass knuckles) to protect the hand. The knives are placed Under the wrist, turning each punch into a lethal stabbing blow. Should not cause clipping problems with any punching animation if blades are placed under the wrist. Spiked Baseball BatA baseball bat with a jagged spike of scrap metal wedged through the top and tied in place with barbed wire. A scary-ass weapon, for sure.Possible animation base: Baseball bat, obviously! Contemporary "Classics" Weaponry Fire Axe or Wood AxeSeriously? How could this not have been included from the start?!Possible animation base: Sledgehammer http://usera.ImageCave.com/ZFS_Cartographer/Screenshots/Battle-Axe.jpg MacheteEverybody needs one!Possible animation base: Chinese Officer's Sword / Shishkebab http://usera.ImageCave.com/ZFS_Cartographer/Screenshots/Machete.jpg Broken Table LegWeapon of choice for drunken brawlers? Maybe. Either way, I want one.Possible animation base: Lead Pipe HammerYep. A little one-handed hammer. Typically used for nails, currently used for skulls.Possible animation base: Tire Iron Meat Cleaver... For fun?Possible animation base: Knife http://usera.ImageCave.com/ZFS_Cartographer/Screenshots/Meat-Knife.jpg There's a couple ideas to get you folks started! Please, pass this on to your buddies, get some support for this going! I can't be the only one out there who's just praying for a few more melee weapons! I'm chock-full of fancy home-made weapon ideas, having been planning for the inevitable zompocalypse these past few years. Don't judge me.
Ralkahn
Awesome idea, and I agree that there should be more melee weapons (and more usage of them. Really there ought to be more melee, less guns in post apocalyptia, but that's another discussion) I like all your ideas (though I like the Shishkebab as it stands, too - think it's a fantastic idea). Daggerfist could alternatively have the blades on either side of the wrist, I would think. Fire axe is a must have (I am right there with you on not believing they left it out), and I'd love to see a makeshift machete, perhaps just a chipped and ground down hunk of rusty metal with duct tape wrapped around one end for a handle. Some more ideas:Screwdriver (plain and simple, but off the top of my head, I think it would need as yet unreachable new animations). Or, with the same animations, a broken off gearstick sharpened at one end, for more of an improvised look. Spear, perhaps made from a pool cue and knife or railway spike (sounds flimsy) or perhaps a nice iron bar filed to a point at one end. Again, new animations would be needed, though... Iron bar, using baseball bat animations. Basically a baseball bat that's heavier, more damaging and more wear-resistant (thinking along the lines of the one Reese uses at the end of Terminator) Junkyard maul - a few lead pipes screwed/welded onto one another with a piece of engine block bolted/welded/tied to one end. Sledgehammer animations. It's not melee, but in the same 'homebrew junkyard' vein, a crossbow made from a piece of clothesline or brake line, part of a leaf spring vehicle suspension and a block of wood (ooh, or a modified crutch?) for the stock. Firing railway spikes. I haven't found the dart gun yet, so I don't know if it could use the animation for that (but hey, I've already kinda been on a "when we can make new animations" kick so far, anyway) Maybe a pair of makeshift vambraces for unarmed combat? Could be car panelling cut to size and shape with handles (or maybe medical braces? Might be more fitting) bolted to the inside. The idea being that the panelling covers the forearm and back of the hand, with the edge extending beyond the knuckles to hit people with (maybe even sharpened?). Using unarmed animations (duh!) Well, that's it from the top of my head. For the most part I like your ideas better than mine, Zwiq (they are, at least, better thought out than mine, heh) EDIT: Also, you get extra points for the word 'badasseriness'
Deleted919650User
While I made this thread with the original intent of asking purely for melee weaponry, I definitely think all the weaponry in the game should be expanded a bit. I really want to see new weapon additions being in that kind of "homebrew junk" vein, though. A person on one of my other forums had a pretty interesting idea for a new weapon. A spikey baseball. Basically just a baseball with scalpels, nails, or jagged pieces of scrap metal jutting from it. When thrown at the enemy it causes damage. Particularly effective for crippling limbs or for sneak attacks. I do not know if this can be done yet. We can obviously use the grenade as an animation base, but is there a value for damage if the grenade makes direct contact with an enemy? I've seen enemies react when I hit the in the back or stomach with a grenade, would it be possible to simply remove the explosion and add a damage value for on-contact? Could throw velocity be increased, giving it a little bit of range? If not, then at the very least this piece of "clutter" could simply be a much more violent ammunition for the Rock-it launcher, I suppose? Add it to the sale inventory of Crazy Wolfgang in bulk? Since he's so damn crazy, I could imagine him lugging around several dozen spiked baseballs. If we had to go that route, then perhaps (to give the player some incentive to do a little exploring and/or roleplaying), we could have the spiked baseballs appear only after we've expanded his inventory by paying the mayor of Canterbury Commons? Ralkahn
Ooh, that's a good one, too. I'm not a modder myself (code scares me ), so I don't know about the damage values and where they lie for grenades. But if there isn't a way of making it impact-only damage (short of the forthcoming script extender), another possibility could be a spiky baseball with a cherry bomb in it, making it a makeshift shrapnel grenade. I prefer the idea of throwing it or Rock-Iting it at someone, though.
Ichthyic
spiked baseballs... which would be fantastic ammo for the rockit-launcher. speaking of which, how about some custom ammo? being able to use your repair skills to build custom ammo for guns. -turpentine+missile would give you hellfire missiles (cause wide-area incendiary splash damage at 8hp/s for 10 sec.) -radscorp stinger + railroad spikes (5) give you 5 poisoned (4hp/s for 8 sec.) railroad spikes for your railway rifle -turpentine +vodka + any piece of clothing gives you a molotov cocktail (wasn't there something like this in a previous fallout?). these would also be launchable via the rockit-cannon in addition to being lobbable like a grenade. incendiary damage only, at 15/s for 10 sec. -scrap metal + 5 shotgun shells = 5 shotgun slugs (20% chance of knockdown, plus 30% better range due to no spread). other junk guns I'd like to see: harpoon gun: medical brace + pool cue + knife + surgical tubing - slow rate of fire (like dart gun), but does decent damage (a little better than hunting rifle), and tethers your target to you via a line, so you can reel them in like a fish, or tie the line off to hold them in place (like a bear trap). oh, and speaking of the repair skill, how about having some things buildable only with a certain level of the repair skill? Ben6989
Yeah... I don't believe that's possible. What I want is something that turns some of the junk into melee weapons. Wrenches, rakes, all sorts of stuff could be used as improvised weaponry.
Ichthyic
Yeah... I don't believe that's possible. which? everything I listed in my post already has preexisting scripts to work from. have you ever noticed how the railway rifle can pin arms and legs to the wall? it's all there, just has to be reconfigured. Ben6989
No, I mean, I believe the effects come from the gun, and not the ammo.
maldan1525
As a more of a roleplaying type person I'd really like to see the role play factors evolve in FO3. How bout some flashlights or spotlights or something? Like you could make them maybe? I.E. lead pipe + fission battery + pilot light = flashlight Or maybe even lighters and torches: baseball bat + turpentine + any kind of cloth clothing + lighter = torch ANOTHER HUGE THING I'd like to see , and I don't know if this is possible with out the Dev Kit, but I'd love to see mounts implemented. Yeah I know a lot of people would say it's impossible with the rugged terrain of D.C. but it can be. Why not a thrown together Motorcycle? OR maybe like an off-road styled bike or ATV. And why not while you're working on that be able to make thrown-together trucks and cars. It would be an AWESOME thing. Another thing I'd love to have is tents and sleeping bags or at least more purchasable or own-able houses and shelters. I have this whole survivor mindset going and I'd love to see some of these ideas put into a mod. Someone help us please lol?
maldan1525
Oh and how bout just making simple things like scalpels, wrenches, and those sort of items be able to be wielded and used as weapons.
